High-demand: Surf Ranch sells out “Ultimate VAL Experience!”

But adds another day!

Admit it, when it was revealed that the World Surf League was opening Surf Ranch for the “Ultimate VAL Experience” at the low, low price of $3500 per person plus $500 more for one friend (capped at 36 surfers a day) plus $550 – $650 to stay in an Airstream near the lake with video coaching and croissants you thought, “Hmmmmm.”

Well, while you were thinking, “Hmmmmm” the advanced session sold right out and can you believe it? Can you believe there are 36 advanced surfers out there splitting $4500 – $4650 for…

3, 1-hour Surf Sessions
In water coaching and guidance
Video capture of all waves
Personalized video review with our coaching staff
Equipment education and use of full Firewire demo quiver
Access to wakesurfing sessions throughout the day on our adjacent 20-acre recreational lake.

To be honest, it’s difficult for me to process. At last check, flights to Tavarua (from Los Angeles) were running $1000 and flights to Tahiti the same. Neither Tavarua nor Tahiti have use of a full Firewire demo quiver included, I suppose.

And in any case, due the popularity, the World Surf League has decided to add another advanced day for 36 more lucky souls.

Yes…

Due to an overwhelming interest in the Intermediate – Advanced Progression Session at Surf Ranch, we’re converting July 31st to feature our CT wave profiles that are best suited for intermediate and advanced surfers.

That brings the current remaining availability to:
July 30th Progression Session: Sold Out
July 31st Progression Session: Now open to Intermediate – Advanced

Don’t “Hmmmmm” and miss out again!

If I would have dedicated my life to making money and looking cool, I’d have enough cash to blow on the surf ranch experience. But instead of jumping on the American hamster wheel, I devoted my life to surfing, so I don’t have shit but a few very dialed in boards and priority at some world class waves. That being said, if I had the cash, I’d definitely do that wave pool kook package.

I swam between 2 and 3 kilometers every day in the old chlorine pools when I was a competitive kid swimmer and definitely prefer the new salt water filtration systems in pools these days . Apparently the Atlantic is much Saltier than the Pacific which may explain why the boards I had , which were totally dialed for France , felt like they were lacking a little buoyancy on returns to Sydney . I always blamed it on the lack of power but maybe it was a lack of Salt .. ?

I’m with -Tron and Scott on this one. Stop hijacking the conversation with your vendetta (justified or not). Go write a blog if you think this needs further attention, this is the internet after all and self publication is almost free and easier than ever before.

Ii didn’t know Machado started a band. The Pixies huh – finally a glimmer of honesty from the guy

ricmatic

Shouldn’t the beginner wave be cheaper than the expert wave? VALS are being exploited!

Party Pete

What’s the difference the VAL experience is their all time best seller.

I want that!

For lovers of the Pixies and 80s / 90s surf culture . Stab ran this little quirky Dutch documentary on the subject

Hope they all die. Although that seems unlikely. BeachGrit should offer more expensive lessons to VAL’s to teach them all to fuck off from surfing and take up rollerblading.

You got that wired Scott…. another trade tool in your belt!

Hahaha dream on SSD. If you think your cellar dwelling Padres currently at .469 have a chance with the Dodgers at .650, a wild card is your only hope. Check out this crazy infield fly call at the first wild card game in 2012 that ultimately cost the Braves their season.

But talking about it is where your money really gets it’s mileage.

Becareful what you wish for. Its cold water where he lives.

I used to think Heli-boarding was on the expensive side. Last time I did it in NZ it cost me approx. $800 NZD mates rates……here are current rates in Alaska. Seems a bargain in comparison to a surf ranch experience.

The Package Deal – $5000
7 nights lodging, 22 helidrops, and then only $160/drop. Pick up and drop off at the ferry or airport included.

Single Day – $600

3 drops in a single day, and then only $160/drop that day. Pick up and drop from ferry or airport is available for $50 round trip.

Superworm

Wow you can heliboard NZ FIFO cheaper from Oz. Last minute ticket $350 return. Car hire. 2 nights motel accomm (not in the mountains). $1000 per day heli each.
2 days and you’ve done more quality boarding than a season in Oz

John Wayne

I have not been down to the snow in Oz for almost 12 years now. Its expensive and dull. Japan is where it would be at if I was still keen as a bean. Had to give up as I can not be trusted on a snowboard anymore. I hate getting injured and if I see a ramp I just want to hit it. And my body is not as young and flexible as it once was.

Tom

Japan too crowded with tools at major spots smaller resorts would be cool now I reckon. Spoke someone who mentioned “club” style smaller jap ones $35 a day stuff – I would like to go Korea I reckon too

Tom

that’s a bucket list thing for me – fuck want to do that

John Wayne

You should do it. Pick your day. Make sure you are super fit. Be honest with the team about your ability. Don’t go too hard too early. Its a very long day. If you can get 6 or 7 runs in you will be buzzing for weeks and weeks. Harris mountains is where we always used to go. I dated a lady for a few years whose family friends owned a heli business in Queenstown. We used to get a few days here and there when there was space. It was unreal. One of the best experiences of my life.

Tom

gotta do it – lucky no work apart from broken neck means fit – the problem no work means no coin to do it!! conundrum mr wayne but gotta work on this

nyc surfing golden boy

thinking about going to AK and just hiking. what you think?

Doobalachy

Yep, again I’m glad the ranch provides a VAL facility so I don’t have to burn their asses at my favourite tropical island surf locations. Plus it might help keeping the prices lower if they are not going. Well done wsl keep the VALs close to the tit at all times so the aspiring pros on the QS can get more prize(survival) money

vals killed costa rica

Munga's Berries

It’s alive and well if you stay off the beaten path.

mine.mine.mine

but they certainly killed lots of great little towns.. when i was last down there 10-15 years ago, the chiro’s from montauk loved to tell you how long they had been coming to Costa and where they leave their long boards and this and that.. never met such a narcissistic group before.. sure some lovely folks, but fuck me.. “did you get it yesterday afternoon, it was firing” mind you I had sat on the beach drinking imperials watching boggie waist high peaks have trouble penetrating the backwash. aargh. I was out of there.

Munga's Berries

Haha yeah that sounds kind of like my final trip to Malpais in the mid aughts but replace the chiros with bougie yogis, Giselle, and Tom Brady.

Santa Teresa was already fucked by then but Malpais was still kind of low key and there were cheap places to stay even though a few eco resorts and McMansions had popped up.

It’s crazy how surfers directly/indirectly change remote places like that, and many times not for the better.

mine.mine.mine

that is one off the places I experienced it for sure. holy shit.

Never forget that the cunts who will shell out to go there are the same ones who downsized your department while telling you to do more with less. The same ones that sell you insulin worth 40 cents a pop for $400. The same ones that moved their headquarters to a PO Box in Barbados to avoid paying their tax.

Shit, I was forced to spend time with the executive leadership team last week. They always manage to renew my faith in socialism.

Bleach'd Git

I understand that you’re using hyperbole above, but what is the mark up on ye olde insulin in the US of A?

M.

I’m sorry. I was all hyperbole and 0 facts. You’ll have to ask señor Google.

Hippy

Dear Chas Smith,

Sir, I think you have missed the salient point from the missive sent from the WSL. It is hard to blame anyone who can’t fathom spending 3500. for 3 hours of artificial surfing, but one familiar with contracts must always read thoroughly and between the lines, my friend.

Per the wording of the second offer, the VAL’s who jumped onto the first opportunity did so in haste. Apparently, the WSL will not be providing them the wave that we all associate with the Ranch, but one appropriate for that skill level.

The second day, just offered, will feature the wave we associate with the Ranch for the intermediates.

So, applying this new light to your hypothetical scenario….. it’s as if the VAL’s are spending Tavarua money to surf artificial San Onofre.

Thank you kind sir for allowing me to contribute, good day,

Hippy
