Our sort has emerged as public enemy number 1. Apparent Coronavirus super spreaders and the burning fever to keep us out of the water has now infected Mexico where it has just been reported that Federales have paused their war against the cartels to seize surfboards and levy massive fines against any and all who dare dance upon the water.
Mexico.
A proud country where freedom isn’t free, it costs a handful of pesos, but is plentiful, warm and chased with margarita on the rocks, a basket of tortilla chips and a stone pestle of fresh guacamole.
A near perfect country that can’t have decided, on its own, to make us outlaws but also, a country where outlaws find their true place.
Once this wild Coronavirus has run its course will be allowed, once again, or stay forever banned?

A couple days ago people were boogie boarding (the real local kids that can actually get barreled, not kids playing in the sand.) Bro Armando and Jose de Jesus said no walking on the beach, but crossing the beach into the water was ok. The 3 bros out live together and they’re the only ones out on a 1 1/2 mile long beach, so they’re not hurting anyone. I passed, cause there’s a lot of nice people here, but the anti-American sentiment is strong for the people who are already wired that way. If they were white Americans, they’d be hating Mexicans. Same people, just different color. Someone said some shit about going home to me. Lol, I haven’t been back for 6 years. Don’t think I’m the problem. I actually can’t remember cos I sorta made it up as I went along.
Though I did have a half a jar of old sourdough starter in the fridge that had gone dormant so I stirred in some flour, water and half a sachet of yeast and left it on the windowsill for a couple of days.
Then added half of that to about 2 cups of flour, a bit of salt and sugar,the other half of the sachet of yeast and most of a can of beer (there may have been more flour or beer added to make it not too sloppy or not too thick, but I’d been drinking a few and forget).
Left it sitting in a cupboard overnight.
Put a couple handfuls of flour on bench and plopped the dough on it.
Rolled it around a bit and then bunged it in the oven for about 40mins.
I still have half a jar of starter on the windowsill so will try again in a couple of days to see if it turns out the same…

Still, Hawaii’s saving grace here is it’s relatively diminutive size and geographic isolation. I’d abandon Cali for Hawaii today, if I could, and with never a backward glance… even though I’ve lived here my entire life.
