A number of spots would be good. The trick is finding one that is relatively uncrowded.
I surfed a pretty popular spot last night and it was completely empty, very strange

Sadly for me the viewer and happily for you ,the local surfer , The US Open will never be held at the above mentioned spots .
I think we’re from the same place but probably were not around at the same time.
It’s not very good at the main two spots people would think about on a bigger south. Five letter street will probably be the best if it gets enough water before the noon bb.

I was generous , almost got into a biff with a German Tourist and Paris Pool Lifeguards … but got plenty of waves , drunk plenty of beer and finally got to say adieu to my best friend ( well his ashes ) who sadly shuffled off this mortal coil in March , and whose funeral I missed thanks to Covid

I was in the water with them in small tricky conditions at Boomerang Beach after a QS event in 2017 and they were both super fast , especially Geiselman and making it look way better than what is was.

that was the day i was in the Cal Div of Forestry, Shingletown, and we responded to an injured partier who cracked his mellon cliff diving…human-chain and ropes (and ladders) propelled us to the pool scene…THEN THE WASPS (flyin en mass) started attacking us on the back up…WHo was the 1st guy back up the hill? THE DUDE WITH THE CRACKED MELLON!!
Lots of weed growers in shingle town now. Bad fire there a few years ago. Seems like a rattlesnake infested hellhole. I guess the house prices are affordable though lol.
buddy mailed a letter with a thai joint enclosed…smoked it and an hour later the engine company was off to a lightnin’ strike, sirens, red lights flashing…for over an hour…fire out by the time we arrived! as for the rattler, a planned overnight hike and camp was quickly over when in low brush (after a few miles of hikers comin the other way: ‘watch out for ’em) heard the rattle…immediately turned titties and drove back to Arcata to surf…wanted to be a mnt man, but deep down, am a beachboy!

It’s one of the few spots in Cali that I would’ve liked to have surfed, but never did. A friend of mine was in with the locals, and used to trek up there when it was big.
and finished last? I cut my teeth watching pro volleyball and semi-pro surfing from the piers…stoked then, not so much now…only hemi-stoked…

Having cut my teeth in an era where a barrel in a contest was the gold standard it is somewhat surprising that barrels , except the death defying ones at Pipe and Chopes , are not highly scored and have gone the way of hang fives and headstands …,

CZ is just about the only guy there who will not leave his competitive surfing career with no skills and no money. Good on him. He’s the man!
His dad Bill , had the wanderlust but waited till after he had finished his apprenticeship as an electrician in the big smoke before moving in the 90s , to no mans land Angourie .
I am pretty sure he might have advised Chris to get something behind him before trying his luck on the QS … and for a full time tradesman he has had some great results , a win at Lance’s Right a few solid local results and a 9th at Ericiera ….. moving on up
I didn’t know about this but his old man sounds wise enough. Chris has a lot less pressure on him to get the results and must enjoy competing a hell lot more than his peers.
