That air that Dane did would have scored a 9 if Griff had done it. Dane should have won the heat easily by at least a point and a half. The only explanation is the judges looking down on it hid how high he flew through the air. That decision will go down as one of the worst WSL judging moments for over a year. Dane to his credit noted how radical his air felt to him in an honest assessment and moved on with dignity. Griff on the other hand made up some ridiculous fable about how it was all about Dane being overconfident with his big lead. Just lost respect for the judges and Griff while Dane got my total respect for his surfing and his knowledge of the criteria along with his attitude and the way he respectfully dealt with being burned by the panel.

I honestly preferred the old judging. Henry probably would have won 5 years ago or however long ago that switch happened.

They had an Ef 3 tornado last month when the lakes were still frozen! Crazy weather.
We’ve had an uncharacteristic number of sunny days which really helps. Typically, we have months long permacloud.
I’ve seen some beautiful pictures of the lake that my grandparents lived on in the winter in Minn with clear blue skys and birch trees. Wish I visited there once in the winter.
MN has a similar beauty to MI. MN does get more sun in the winter. Moisture from Lake Michigan drives a lot of cloud cover in MI. I love it here, though I do miss the PacNW. The birch trees are beautiful, but there aren’t as many here as there used to be.
