Nobody cares, other than people who attend the contest. That has never been in dispute. In 30 years of knowing about the US Open the only time I gave half a fuck (before today) was when it was a CT event and Hurley increased the winning prize to the largest in surf history.
Other than that it’s always been insignificant, outside of the vampires in the surf “industry” who have hefty mortgages to pay.
Nobody cares, and it’s a bit weird that you think anybody should.

I’ll watch a comp anywhere, anytime, appreciating what’s on offer and not bitching about the conditions or the engagement like a spoiled tic-toker and getting nationalististic like one of WSL’s target audience.
