The dangers of human trafficking came into relief for San Diego surfers this morning when multiple bodies were found washed ashore at Blacks following a mid-sea collision between two boats carrying at least eighteen migrants.
The San Diego Herald-Tribune reported,
Officials were alerted to the incident when a Spanish-speaking woman called 911 around 11:30 p.m. asking for help. She said two boats were near Black’s Beach, one with eight people on board and a second with somewhere between eight and 15 people.
She told dispatchers the one she was on had made it to shore while the other had capsized and people were in the water.
“This is one of the worst maritime smuggling tragedies that I can think of in California, and certainly here in the city,” San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Lifeguard Chief James Gartland said.
In a statement the Consulate General of Mexico said,
“(We) lament the maritime tragedy that occurred this morning near La Jolla. We are working to identify people of Mexican origin and assist their families.”

Most dream of living back in Mexico with their families, with a nice house, a truck. While many Mexicans do like the USA, most who cross illegally are only there for economic reasons.

The cost of living is also rising in Mexico. Just spend some time in Mexico you will meet many who have come back in a better financial situation to set up family. I’ve met so many here.
They wouldn’t come if there wasn’t money to be made. The reality is they are leaving family behind, working their asses off then returning with enough cash to set the family up. Just so happens the plot of land to the north has a stronger currency.

Imagine the hundreds of billions of dollars the cartels would not have earned if the “eternal consumption engine” (Les Claypool) had legalized drugs in the 90s. It was clear 30+ years ago that the drug war failed and only legalizing would prevent enriching criminal organizations here and everywhere else.
I’ve said multiple times…if you want to legalize everything then I need a full concealed carry permit to fend off the zombie hordes (until they kill themselves, of course).
Drugs may be legal but they certainly won’t be free and a massive increase in desperate junkies puts the rest of society at risk.

Drugs and money
Born and raised in SD and illegal immigration has been a topic my entire life and has occurred regardless of which side of the same coin is in office. I am sure I will hear immigration b.s. on my deathbed. IMO, SD the best city in America hands down and has not changed much in 50 years other than growth, so all the vehement anti-immigration people are either racist or watch right-wing news and think the problem is exponentially worse than it is. Immigration deserves rational conversation, but the U.S. has far bigger problems due to the sociopaths we elect on both sides of the coin.

From the violence of MS-13 to the burden on taxpayers to fund social services for people working off the books (or using illegally obtained SSN’s) it’s been an overall negative.
And now you have almost 50K illegal immigrants in NYC that NY State residents are supporting.

I can imagine exactly what life was like in SD in 1994 (when you say it got bad below) bc I was 25. If anything, numerous communities–Oside, Carlsbad, OB–are far better now than pre-1994.
