Okay since we hate wave pools different question.
What’s the best US surf spot for a 10-day waiting period in July? Not “it could go off,” but rather a place you think you could reasonably count on for an exciting and worthy surf contest.
I guess you can count on Huntington Beach for middle-aged men in flat brim caps and wallet chains, and always something to surf … It is pretty consistent.
Make it a winter sport and hold the comp in Hawaii? IDK. Just trying to think outside the box. Summer/winter designation changes based on hemisphere? It would be easier to hold it in a tank…
Olympic surfing venues are as hostage to tourism marketing departments as all other WSL events.
That is another practical reason it will never happen in a tub.

Hot take:
The next Olympic surfing venue should be a tank. Probably Surf Ranch. I don’t love tank contests, but it seems like a fit for the Olympics enormous non-surfing audience. The waves are much more consistent and similar and showcase radical athleticism. Really good fit for the Olympics.
Pragmatically though Pauly, with the next Olympics on the US West Coast, do you do a 10-day waiting period at Trestles in July? It could easily be shin high the entire time. Oceanside? Lemoore is the best choice for sure.
yeah, nah. talent and ambition are both there, her competitive focus and wave selection comes and goes. when she’s on she’s the best female surfer in the world, bar none. when she’s off she doesn’t get the waves and gets beat badly

It was a tough wank.
I also went flaccid.

GoNads!!! Hahahahaa
Kauai wins
I’m still really disgusted that Ross Williams blocks waves for Tati at Pipe.
So is Moana Jones Wong.

Does the USA own Tonga? The Cook Islands? We own so many countries around the world, there must be one with a pumping Southern hemi exposure in July.
We own Fiji, right? Tavarua then?
I don’t think so.
true confessions: I have enjoyed watching the US open, especially some of the bigger swells

But, ewwwwwww
The Wedge
As they say in 1980’s action movies, that’s so crazy it just might work.
That’d be sick. Non-surfers would love it
Gayyyyyyyyyyeah.

Waco Surf or Kelly’s Surf Ranch, possibly the Wedge. Try it you’ll like it

given the conditions today, I’d have to agree.
I’ve found, though interested, non surfers find wave pools fucken stupid, which they are.

i heard huntington is probs the go, so I see your point.
I understand what you’re saying. Also, fuck wave ponds
nah. will never happen.
Want to see a non surfer put in a coma?
Put them in front of a tub- every wave looks identical and they have zero idea what is happening.
Mate, we are 8 years into this wave pool experiement.
They are bore the tits off anyone.
If down vote, then tell me which US West Coast surf spot is a better bet with a 10 day waiting period in July
Stressles.
Th Bu’
Elo is that you?
Marks now USA’s lone hope for a medal in surfing. Y’all had a pretty amazing team but things happen, I guess
shut up you boring piece of crap.

Heh. I was meaning Shannon but yea sure Barton too !
breathe barton, breathe!
i’m back and I can see it did not in fact get better!
Simmers out!? Has she been overhyped or still finding her feet?
Could be an ambition doesn’t match talent situation, idk
err… no
Shut up! Simmers is 🔥
Simmers down, I agree.
Rude!

she’s only 18. give her some time, coach
yes! and, it’s surfing!
You’re right that it’s too early to tell, and so I made nor make a definitive statement on it. There’s no question she has the most talent on the CT.
fuck, is Riss 31?
Oh Johanne
time for a good hard look in the mirror
