I honestly feel that the WSL is holding it off on purpose so that all the various “stakeholders” can interact together in person before the competition starts.
Just a theory. But I’m sure that the suits are consulting with the surfer’s representatives and the judges and all the others involved to see if they can get the messaging right. After seeing the CLUSTERFUCK that is the beginning of the F1 season they’d be wise to get all the surfers and their agents in good standing.
Then they can go full throttle once the horn blows.
