Stab and The Inertia blow stack over fun closeout!
Did you watch Natxo Gonzalez’s recent Discovery clip? It was plastered onto Stab and Venice-adjacent twin-flame The Inertia and lauded with the most breathless praise. “Best discovery of decade!” “Best discovery ever!” “One of the heaviest waves ever seen!” “Better than Mick’s wave!”
And while I love the Spaniard’s pluck and his zeal and his boldly going where no man has maybe gone before, Stab and The Inertia both lost their minds while spewing superlatives.
Better than Mick’s wave?
Umm. No. It was beautiful but it was also flawed. None of the actual rides featured an actual barrel and I have no idea what was happening when the thing bent away from view. Taking nothing away from the joy of discovery, if we surf journalists are not careful we’ll all end up wearing many bracelets, rings, necklaces, accessories. Hats, etc.

The wave? Pretty good.
The editing? Horrendous. The first drop he makes they cut it off.
The false drama buildup and out of almost six minutes he barely rides two waves?
His fucking board looks like a Wavestorm, the board of nightmares.
First wave best scorpion ever!! But shit there are at least 4 places relatively near me that would do exactly that in right sand and swell

This is why I hold the surf media in such high esteem. Surf Journalists are great surfers as well, they understand waves and magnificently scribe onto now extinct magazines. A+ to the wordsmiths at Inertia and Stab I say.
After rewatching the Snake video, i can see why they said Natxo wave is better. Micks waves look friendly. if you needed, you could push through the lip no problem. Natxo wave is thicker and a bit more square.
But wait… how does that make it better?
Its a matter of opinion. I like my waves like i like my women, thick and fast.
But that doesnt mean i wont play with the cute thin ones too

1. Nothing about that wave looks hard to get into. But that may be due to my chosen surf craft.
2. The lefts at the light house break better and longer than this on a NE swell.
3. It looks really damn fun.
4 Rodanthe does this on a hurricane south swell.
People need to raise their expectations.
The camera guy needs a new tripod.
Maybe the clip was shade chuckin’ advertorial on Mick. Naxto fast buster? Nachos extra cheese?
Ok first thing first. There’s 5 better rights in the Caribbean with 2 hour flights from Florida. 2) wtf a frontside rider would have been slaying it. 3) I make FC2 fins that don’t break. That’s bullshit if you can’t even get to the bottom of a wave with out breaking the tabs or losing the fin. It’s called g10. Use it. 4) what the Fuck. That was trash and they should feel bad!

Heat pressed vacuum bagged epoxy and fiberglass panels it’s super strong. Not the lightest but unreal.
where do you get them

G 10 , 60 layers of 2 oz cloth , made in epoxy , so you can make a very thin fin that only flex’s in the tip , normally used for Tow boards or step ups / Guns
Works great in small stuff too dude you’d be surprised.

Between the use of the first “inspirational” song pulled off any royalty free music website, 5 minutes of shaky footage and only 1 wave, this video was hardly watchable let alone worth praising.
Yeah Felt like a “kickstarter” campaign.
I wish they would have shown that wave with the cute little Australian girl who loves donuts. She would have made it watchable.
