“Do you think we have used and disrespected the earth enough or can we keep going at the rate we have become accustomed to?”

Since he asked, I think we all probably have used and disrespected the earth enough BUT he didn’t ask should we keep going. He asked can we and I, for one, think surfers can muster the will for more machine generated waves, Breitling Superocean watches retailing for around $7k with a nylon strap, FCS H4 fins that enjoy falling out of lightly glassed high performance shortboards and planting themselves into delicate reefs, SharkBanz that don’t work and get thrown into landfills along with their lithium ion batteries etc.
In short, consumption, BUT is all consumption the same? And let us re-ponder Kelly Slater’s Aristotle-esque question “How should we live?” as answered by the great Danish thinker Søren Kierkegaard, bridging the aesthetic with the ethical through faith.

That’s my issue with it being implemented here and with ACA too. The cost of healthcare is insane. Basic treatments that are hundreds if you pay out of pocket are billed by the thousands to insurance.
I had the misfortune of getting two concussions within two weeks at a time when my wife was waiting for new job to start and we had major medical- $2500 deductable. She dragged me to the Coronado er (very fast and not surrounded by weirdo drug seekers) because I was so fried from concussions which led to ct scans and all the other tests. Was there for 6 hours, the bill was close to $30k which they asked us for when I was discharged. They finally figured their shit out and handed us the $2500 bill after a solid day on the phone haggling with them.

I was in boating accident in NZ…. you wouldn’t believe the care that they offered, I did not pay a dime.
When I asked if they wanted my insurance card, they looked profoundly sad for me and begged me to stay until I had recovered. Begged Scott. The attending nurse called me to check in the next day, if I needed to come back in. Fucking heartwarming.
And the lifeguard who extracted me from the secret beach went back at night and recovered my two CI’s that were lost in the accident…. have no idea how they found them. They towed our boat back and into my mates driveway!!!! Came back next year and bought him dinner, beers…. went surfing at the spot we found in his boat.

That is amazing. Do you think it would work in a nation of 328 million and generally corrupt politicians and bureaucrats? Plus the corporate/big pharma lobby fucking us. It’s one thing we as a country can do better. It’s interesting and very insightful talking to real people on here with first hand knowledge and opinions on it. Haven’t heard any of our Australian or New Zealand friends say universal health care is garbage or wish they didn’t have it. One thing I do know is health insurance is something my wife and I base a good part of our plans around. I can’t afford it for a family of five being self employed so my wife works jobs that offer good healthcare. When her last job ended the cobra coverage was $1800 a month! Her present job with work group policy they take out $300 a month.
Obama care was a step in the right direction , but now the Health system in the USA has been watered down again , there are 28m Americans that have no health care , and that’s the demographic that is really suffering with the Corona pandemic……
I don’t think I have ever heard in the countries that I have lived in and visited , anybody being critical of a comprehensive health system…except the rich who have investments in the Corporate/big pharma business……and need a big return on their investment.
If you lived in France , you have the right to the best doctors/surgeons, free hospital, free education even college , and you only have to pay 20% of your pharmacy costs…
The system is badly needed of an overhaul. Its complete bullshit that we’re mired in this political stalemate while people die or face financial ruin. Hospitals are required to treat you regardless of ability to pay but you will be hounded by debt collectors and have negative marks on your credit. Between the politicians, the insane cost of healthcare, big pharma and citizens that are not even trying to be healthy or drug seekers tying up hospital ERs, the whole thing is a shitshow. But, hey, it’s all about the shareholders and CEOs making $20 million a year! Appreciate your input, Brutus!
Our healthcare system is badass. Breaks my heart that medical care is tied to the idea of success in the states. Ie, go to college so you can have a student debt, so you can compete for a job that has “medical”. Seems cruel carrot and the stick type shit.

Yep. Might have posted this story before, but I was driving a crew of pro-skaters around SE Queensland for a tour. One split his chin riding the old Pizzey Park concrete ramp. I drove him to the hospital and he wouldn’t believe he was not going to be charged anything. Came up with this huge back-story that he was a mute. Even when I asked the nurse, in front of him, ‘do tourists from other countries get free treatment as well?’, he still refused to accept it.
most Western Countries have health care for all , so yeah anybody can go to an Emergency room without fear of being rejected .
No one can be rejected if they go to the Emergency Room in the U.S.. In fact, most hospitals have opened up local Urgent Care Medical facilities to handle the load of people coming into Emergency Rooms for complaints that don’t require E.R. care. Hospitals were being overwhelmed by patients well before Wuhan Virus got to the shores of America. And a lot of it has to do with all the fucking illegals we have in our country. 22 million and counting.
