Three days ago, in Western Australia, a pair of Humpback whales, “poster animals of the left”, crushed a 29-year-old woman, leaving her with internal bleeding and broken ribs, another woman’s hamstring muscle was torn by the whale’s pectoral fin.
In NSW, a Humpback charged surfers in “a never-before-witnessed attack”.
And, yesterday, another snorkeler in Western Australia was hit by a Humpback, leaving the woman with internal injuries the treating doctor likened to being “hit by a car.”
“It felt like somebody punched me,” said the woman.
Great Whites, yeah, get it.

Maybe the whales are tired of playing second fiddle to the GWS”s , are we about to see dolphins all over the world start attacking surfers in revenge being called cute?
I had paddled my then Girlfriend into a lineup… she was stuggling to sit up on my 6’8″ swallow and a dolphin pops up right next to her. You’d think I would have to talk her down a bit, but a rogue set had replaced the dolphin breach and I was quickly instructing her on getting mowed protocol as we were about to get mowed. ( she had never duck dived or paddled before)
That night in bed, drama over. Near drowning survived, her boyfriend “saved” her though I was the one who got her caught inside. That part wasn’t worth explaining over dinner or sex.
“That dolphin had so many scratches on it’s back and top fin”….. she had noticed the dolphin, not the well overhead set bearing down on us.
I had to explain that Flipper was a hardscrabble mammal whose lifestyle probably doesn’t fit the definition of cute or fuzzy. Well, not fuzzy for sure.
She called her sister the next day and went on and on about the dolphin. Was ready to hang up and I was so relieved… she had forgotten the real drama.
