Beyond there being less opportunity to score good swell, it seems like there’s a lot less opportunity for the surfers to perform. The first round winners in the women’s comp go straight to the quarterfinals. The WSL is claiming they want to run the contest in one swell window, but what about wind conditions etc. It will be interesting to see how the new format plays out during these next few contests, but so far it feels underwhelming. That shortened window had to cut expenses down, but at what cost?

When the WSL originally announced a return to G Land in 2019, what were the scheduled dates? What were the tides during that week? What did the swell do in that week?
