In surprise twist, Brazilian surf fans react poorly!
In a surprise twist, Brazilian surf fans have reacted with outrage, dismay and a flaming fury after Brazilians lost both the men’s and women’s finals at the just completed Margaret River Pro, an event held, like Bells, at a sub-standard wave courtesy of state government sponsorship.
In the men’s the Manly surfer George Pittar proved beyond any measure that his road to the final was anything but a fluke when he cut and thrust at Gabriel Medina relentlessly, driving him around the clean three-to-four-foot lineup, never letting him gain his balance.
Medina parried desperately and tried to counter, but lost priority, leaving Pittar to press without yielding, never giving up the initiative.
In the aftermath of the loss, Brazilian surf fans bombarded the WSL’s Instagram with claims of bias, racism etc.
Once again, they managed to harm Gabriel. It’s unbelievable how obvious the injustice against him has been for years. The WSL is losing credibility with this lack of consistency in judging the competitors, to the point of changing priority to benefit another surfer. Yes, he surfed the wave well, but the 9-point score was clearly overrated. All of this is very disappointing.
Very bad decisions. Medina did not lose priority. And George did not deserve a 9.00.
Once again… and always… till when? Changing rules, subjective judgments, against brazilians… and for another year we will see this wsl organization has no credibility…
Both of the judges dropped, he didn’t…. The priority was just stolen and the 9 very exaggerated, isn’t it? You’re tired of Brazilians winning, I understand it’s sad.
Have you ever thought of doing a no stealing competition? it would be the best
A gifted 9—a priority score handed to him simply for being Australian and surfing on home turf. The judges are incompetent.
Make your own happiness wsl, you can steal the Brazilians as always, but at the end of the year it will be a Brazilian lifting the trophy, because we simply have the best surfers in the world.
Incredibly, George Pittar beat four Brazilian world champs to win the Margaret River Pro, Filipe Toledo, Yago Dora, Italo Ferreira and Gabriel Medina.
How do you rate nine-point ride and priority deciz?
In this case, I believe Brazilian surf fans, usually some of the most gracious in the game, have overstepped the mark and are allowing their famous and beautiful parochialism to overshadow their sense of reason.

Ugly Ugly style. I just can’t get past the head fake top turns. Would not buy him a HamSammish.
I remember Tatiana heats – I’d go sharpen the lawnmower blade with the spark plug in.
Yago had a very weird moment at the end of the QF heat with Pittar where Yago was indecisive on whether to take a wave and judges found that it flipped priority, otherwise GP’s run would have been over (even the Aussies in the booth thought Yago got a raw deal on the call) — but kudos to Pittar for taking advantage of the opening and running the table after Yago’s gift
Carissa got burned
Yeah, you just mentioning Taj made me think how unusual it was.
I actually wanted to listen to him.
The question is…did the girls get their tits out for him on stairs. He seems like a fella who’d revel in that.
Taj unfiltered. Given the typical benign nature of commentary, I felt Joe’s apparent anxiety spike on every slight criticism Taj spoke. Even him just speaking about anything was so noticeably different to the strategic
continuous upsell on anything & everything to do with the surfers, comp, tour.
At what point does someone just say enough. It’s sanitised to the point of idiocy.
Fuvk imagine having guys in who know comp surfing. just saying what they think every comp. Nothing nasty, but what they think, like Taj explaining George’s technique evolution from what he’s seen. What he’s noticed to create the shift. This is commentary.
WSL have left so much on the table farming the woke horseshit they reverberate year after year.
lol I’ve been banned to many times, and don’t have the motivation anymore to setup a new profile
As usual the Brazilian fans don’t look at the scoresheet very closely as the Brazilian judge scored George a 9.0 and was one of two judges to score George’s 6.17 a higher 6.5. Just looking at the Brazilian judges scores he had it George 15.5 total and Gabriel 12.8, hardly close is it? I’m with the Brazilian fans with the priority decision 100%, that was one of the worst decisions by Ratso I’ve ever seen, George hadn’t yet reached the peak and certainly had no chance of contesting that wave. For those who haven’t competed in or watched a competition at Margs before I will give you the benefit of my experience, its a long way from the judging tower and the judges are looking down on the action from a great height due to the cliff face and those closeup shots you see on your screens is not what the judges see. Spray thrown high and thick up in the air and staying up for longer is mostly what the judges get to evaluate when they throw scores. To a lesser extent the board going vertical or carves with board facing back to the whitewater and even less are subtle tweaks of the tail and fins. I thought the judges struggled with the judging scale transition from women’s to mens heats, overall the judging looked decent to me though. From the judges point of view a bigger more walled up wave looks so much better than a peakier one from that distance and height viewpoint so to a large extent better waves were scored much higher.
I always find the international judges thing interesting as it’s brought up in the Insta comments a lot. At that level the Judges are not even thinking about which Country a surfer is from. Any Judge that’s taking things like that into account would’ve been well and truly weeded out of lower tier panels and would never get near the WSL judging team.
So true, I think most Brazo fans don’t even know there’s a Brazilian head judge plus at least one panel judge and think it’s all Australian/host country judges.
You’ve said quickly thrown together, 5 minute write up about 10 times now. That’s implying you’d do a far better job if only you had tried. Don’t be a princess, own your words.
Also a few supportive upvotes are just that. Good effort, wanna do the contest reports then fire them into Dez, but you’re going to have to mix it up, not just play the Strayan Cosplayer angle as that’ll get boring real quick. 3/10 from me.
And yeah I don’t live in one of the global epicenters of surfing like you. There’s definitely not enough airs being done in contests over here, I see a lot of safety surfing. See a ton of weak air revs but technical, flowing boned out stuff has gotta be rewarded. I’m not judging WSL events just watching and voicing my personal opinion which may be way different if I was actually sitting down live, on a panel.
Not the greatest BG era.
Want your old job back?
I think I watched about three waves at MR. Still lost a good bit of cash. So no, not especially.
But if this is the level we’re at…
What’s the GC forecast?
Snapper looking ok at this stage and I just want to see them unleash themselves. But yeah need you back as Straygun Cosplayer got a dozen upvotes on his report, so that in his 12 year old schoolgirl mind means everyone loves him and wants more.
Onya Cunt! George defo deserved the win. He went thru a gauntlet format, reminiscent of a late 80s video game(the one with the plumbers, lolz). In order to advance one must beat a “boss” type character at the end of each level. Increasing in difficulty as you go. Culminating in a matchup with the “Final Boss” to claim the ultimate prize/princess. “Brazzo Storm” sounds like a fitting title. I’m open to suggestions. All hail the rail! Yeeeeeeeeeeww!
Brazilians are so lovable, no wonder so many Australian blokes hook up with them and have half Aussie half Brazzo kids, and those kids, gee, so adorable.
I like George.
bit worried blowin’s gone missin…… I thought george Pittar…oooh ahhh…would lighten his mood as a…?
well done George, yep lotta mongrel there….and forecast for Snapper…looks pretty average?
Looks like a swell next Saturday , lotta small east swells , but Ok winds lotta pressure on a few surfers now to start their 26 campaign…Brazzos are looking strong!
Four days until we hear from Joe again. And a recap of how ICONIC the Aussie leg has been.
I wonder what Fick and Tajs overall line scores were for the comp ?
Cunt the only thing i would add would have been something about D Mac at 65 and Chippa crashing into the lefts and ripping the top of a few in a “Get fucked WSL ” its a peak and both sides of the peak should be scored equally.
oh and possibly something about the fucken coaches, how the fuck does anyone justify paying Snake and Micro fuck me those two cunts are slightly more thick than granno workers.
I kinda get a bit tweaked out when the judges seem to at each event start actively looking to introduce an excellent number into the final score line. It builds a narrative that is possibly false or at worse manipulated.
