I’ve spoken to his mother, she is a very nice lady. Very proud of her young son. Finn’s dad’s name is Mike. He invented the McTwist! But not really. Just two guys who share a relatively uncommon name. I know what that’s like. Finn’s Mike is a photographer, not the prominent 80’s skateboarder.
While I wait for Finn to find a few minutes between chats with far more prominent outlets, I figured it’d be a good time to dish a tasty North Shore rumor.

Why did Mr Rothman chase Surfer photo editor Grant Ellis off the beach? Was it due to the mag’s decision to not run a video of Big Island local, and shark attack survivor, Jimmy “Ulu Boi” Napeahi?

Yeah that’s a great idea. My number 2 issue is the imagine that surfers have with everyday society. Most folks just assume that as a whole surfers are stoners. I take offense to that. Personally I would love for the image to be brighter is all I’m saying. Not all of us are simple minded sheep following the cutout mold.

Let’s be real, dope money runs the surf industry. I’m a career shaper and could list off at least 5 major surfboard companies that were started with either medical weed profits or hollow board theory….
They are filming for ‘snapt 3’ the kid that’s making Bruce do Steve o type stunts with dirt nasty is the son of a major Hollywood producer and has produced surfers like Geoff brack. Look at how that ended up. Honestly I think Logan (the money man) isn’t concerned with anyone’s health but more concerned with creating a late 2000’s new age ‘bad boy’ club logo, although I’m a casual drug user, I do agree.

Money, dirty slimy money! I’m not against pot all together, I even voted for legalization in Florida this past election. Having said that I do have similar issues you mentioned. My number 1 is kids, specifically teenage age ones. What sort of image does this reflect on the surf industry as a whole. I know that might be generalized, but that’s what kids do. They have no real wisdom or discernment to differentiate good from “not that bad, or bad”. I say poor form on those stupid enough to have their names associated with this, and certainly don’t want my kids participating in drugs…like I did..
Surf splendor podcast had a good talk about this place. I’m with bass, it’s a blight to the north shore season. What do you get when you put a bunch of spoiled surf rats in a house full of dope? Stoned, spoiled surf rats…with money of course!

Just out of personal experience, the people who are fucked off baked ALL day-out if my friends and aquantinces none seem to be motivated and productive. Again, I just have my little lens I look through and that forms my reality. However, I am aware of the unbelievable health benefits of MJ, and if someone wants to take a couple rips before a movie or dinner, that’s fine. But now kids are dabbing. Heard of it? I was put in a fever after I tried it a couple years ago. No point getting that high and no point glorifying it. I sound like my mom but I do think there should be a discussion on it. Quite the contrary. I basically didn’t even get high anymore because my tolerance was pinned to the roof, it was just a fun habitual ritual. My tolerance is massive for a 5’9″, 170lber. I could easily dab all day long, be productive, surf, drive, take care of bills and shit. I’ve eaten full 10x brownies and gone and surfed before. It just doesn’t affect me the same. I’m self-made, successful, family home, all the usual shit. I run an entire department for a creative agency.
I try and give my wife one fucking gummy bear and an hour later she wants me to call 911. You just cannot expect your experience to be the same as other people.

I hear ya there. And to be honest, I spent over a decade high- surfing competitively, writing, going to college etc. I just feel the older I get, the more it slows me down. But by all mean, smoke ’em if you got ’em! And I know a handful of functionining pot heads when I think long and hard. To each their own
