Heaven on earth?
With two existing wave tanks, and more on the way, the State of Texas has, for some years now, been part of our surf conversation. Big skies, open spaces, plenty of power to generate milky green barrels, a libertarian vein running deep.
It was maybe always a match made in the stars and that match may well get consummated as surf icon Matthew McConaughey has recently teased a run at the governorship, saying it is a “true consideration.”
New polls, just out in The Dallas Morning News, show that he leads current governor Greg Abbott by a margin of 45% to 33%.
If he were to take the plunge and run for governor, the poll found, 45% of Texas registered voters would vote for McConaughey, 33% would vote for Abbott and 22% would vote for someone else.
McConaughey’s double-digit lead over the two-term Republican incumbent is significant. The poll, conducted April 6-13, surveyed 1,126 registered voters and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.92 percentage points.
McConaughey, who’s politics straddle multiple lines, appeals to centrist voters with an outsider message and while pundits scoff at the possibility of a win, imagine if he did.
Just imagine.
The Uvalde, Texas born actor has done more to further the wonderful surfer-slacker stereotype than anyone on earth including Spicoli’s Sean Penn. Even though he picked surfing up later in life, he has carved room for us all to be dumb, to dress like eight-year-olds.
To shine like stars.

He was magnificent when we were younger.
Until I saw Kelly Slater up close and personal.
Kevin was the most graceful, creative, naturally talented surfer I had ever seen.
As a teenager I always wondered what Kevin would be like when he got older. Now we see.
I have hours and hours of Super 8 movies of Kevin and everyoen surfing Rivermouth and the Harbor.
I need to convert them to digital and edit them and show them to the Lovely Lads and make everyone cry.

Polls. Hahahahahaha. The same ‘polls’ predicted Biden had a real shot to win Texas. Wasn’t even close. Same with Florida, Ohio. In fact, every state with a semblance of vote integrity Trump won handily. Every state that stopped counting at 10 pm (Trump up big in all) and resumed the next morning Biden magically won. Biden, the most popular president (vote totals) in US history, by far. So popular, he crushed Obama by 14 million (2012 election) votes and in fact got a higher % and more total black votes than Obama. He’s like as popular as Sadaam was in Iraq or Stalin in Soviet Union. Adored by the people – see the vote totals….proof.

Is it accidental timing that (McConaughey lookalike and popular novelty wave vlogger) Ben Gravy released his latest offering 5hrs ago direct from the indoor New Jersey pool on his way to Texas for a wavepool roadtrip ?
Or is it true he’s in his way to the Lonestar State on the personal invitation of The Beach Bum star himself to film parts as lead surfing body double for an upcoming (as yet unnamed, unannounced) cinematic release, or to use in campaign promotional materials ?
Further research as to the truth is taking place at this very moment.

I don’t know Bee Bee. Im wondering why Matthew would use Ben as his double. I guess they look alike. Matthew surfs and Im assuming he probably surfs alright so wouldn’t he just do it himself? Unless they wanna do something specific that Ben’s good at

Hello from the Malibu, where there are probably more Teslas and chargers per capita than just about anywhere else.
I have pestered everyone from the editors of Wired to Gavin Newsom and President Biden with an idea that you might consider.
Since Biden is calling for 500,000 EV charging stations across the country by 2030 how about converting 20th Century drive in theaters with 21st Century technology and turn them into electric car charging stations?
Both existing theaters still operating, and bringing others back from the dead – like the Skyview in my hometown of Santa Cruz (RIP)
Looking around California there are operating drive in theaters in San Jose, Paramount, Barstow, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and other locations that are perfect: In the middle of population density but close to major highways and equidistant between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, or Los Angeles and Silicon Valley.

The spaces and some of the infrastructure are already there.
Put as many chargers in there as are thought necessary based on demand.
Although I am pretty sure that ICE stinkpots are going the way of the dodo and America will be all electric sooner than we know.
Citizens pay to charge by the day and are on their way.
Or charge by night under the moonlight while they watch a 2 – 3 hour movie.

Would be cool to bring back drive in theaters. They were good, clean fun as a child of the 60s and a different kind of fun as a teenager in the 70s.
And I believe there’s gonna be billions of dollars eagerly made available for the conversions?
