He's baaaaaack!
Surfers near and far are very aware of the great Miki Dora, how he owned Malibu during halcyon days then became vaguely reclusive, popping back on the scene from time to time before popping back out. Mystery and mayhem. Well, it appears that his heir apparent, one Jonah Hill, has taken notes and become something of a cenobite himself.
Hill recently announced that he would know longer promote his films in a public-facing manner, as it causes anxiety, and also deleted his Instagram.
Vanished from view… until, that is, he was spotted near Ventura, California in a “luxury camper.”
The Daily Mail described the “Mercedes adventure vehicle, also known as the Beast Mode 4×4” thusly:
The luxury camper van is fully decked out with mod-cons that include a two-person bed, tons of storage space, a shower, fridge and microwave.
It also is also equipped with a state of the art AC and heating system and gets its power from solar panels that are mounted on the roof.
Hill was companionless, in keeping with his new lifestyle choices, though seemed happy to be snapped, smiling and sharing a generous thumbs up.
Heart warming.
But where do you think he will go in the Beast Mode 4×4? Down Baja? Mainland Mex? Through the Darién Plug?
Adventure awaits.

Climate change will save us from rich assholes taking our surf towns. Soon come all the rich assholes will flee to the hills then hopefully mars! Leaving us with high tide spots at low tide and a golden age of surfers discovering new high tide spots at high tide. Incoming of course

In honour of this story – I re-watched Superbad last night. It is still really funny and has some “problematic” jokes by 2022 standards, which actually helps it stay funny. Lotsa 07 vibe laughs. I’m starting to like JHill’s journey/transition into surf rat. VAL or not, he’s taking off up the coast much in the same way many of us do hunting waves. Fuck, the papps are kinda cunts for chasing him tbh. Let the man surf!

His earnestness seems genuine and for some reason I feel optimistic about his intentions with the surf-travel life he’s embarking on
Perhaps he’ll take this Beast on many trips far and wide
Up to Alaska, over East, down to Tierra del Fuego
Soooooooo many places just a drive away in a real lifestyle wagon like that if you have the time, bucks, and inclination
Or maybe he’ll just be a lame-ass, and putter around his local area like those sprinter van surfline guys (that Jen used to write about)…
