Surfers press pause on dabbling in alternative lifestyles after kitesurfer blown into power lines

Fantasies dashed.

Surfers, each and every one of us, are marked by dissatisfaction. From always thinking we should have paddled out at a different tide, or different time of day, to should have been being on a different shape to should have gone here instead of there to, the ultimate form of dissatisfaction, dabbling in alternative wave riding craft. From surf mats to paipos, SUPs to foils, surfers are perpetually wondering if another board might just might provide the “answer.”

Especially when the wind blows it all the way out.

But you have certainly seen kite surfers gearing up in various otherwise empty parking lots when gales are howling. Nobody else, clearly, in the water and dissatisfied thoughts running wild.

Might this be it? No crowds, no… crowds, just perfect and pure and empty bliss?

Well, those fantasies were certainly dashed, basically today, when an Australian kitesurfer rocked into his otherwise empty car park, did whatever kitesurfers to in their pre-game then became maybe electrocuted.

Per news.com.au:

Emergency services were called to Ettalong Beach on Monday morning after a man in his 50s was lifted from the surf by the winds – which reached up to 61km/h just after 8.30am – and was thrown into powerlines before landing on the road.

Reporting, though limited, shared that he was airlifted to a local hospital.

But, argh. This alone, hopefully, enough to force surfers to press pause on alternative lifestyles and maybe press pause on surfing altogether.

And/or maybe the windblown seas emptier than ever?
