Sometimes when it rains, it pours, or so the saying goes, and just as BeachGrit readers reeled from the not entirely unexpected news that John John Florence won’t be doin’ the 2026 tour, Jamie O’Brien has legit shocked his fans with the announcement he is quitting his iconic Pipe house.
The house, visible below, crouches just behind the well-known Lopez house. As Jamie has noted before, however, its lot was once occupied by the original beachfront home—prior to construction of the bigger house now facing the beach.
Pipeline has been home for the notorious redhead his entire life.
Jamie, who is forty-two, grew up, alongside his Australian lifeguard daddy Mick, mama split for the mainland when he was a kid, at 59-369 Ke Nui Road, a few houses down on the beachfront there.
The old joint, which was built in 1945 and remodelled ten years later, was actually two studios nailed together. Jamie used to live in the oceanfront half, daddy Mick and pals in the back of the place.
Anyway, Jamie has announced via his popular vlog that he is quitting his and moving, along with baby son Kolohe Jr and wife Tina Cohen to an undisclosed location.
“Kind of a big day. One of the biggest days of my life. We are moving. We’re not going to live at Pipeline anymore. It’s kind of a long story,” he says.
The house will be rented and wife Tina Cohen hopes to become friends with the tenant thereby enabling regular access to the house’s excellent location.

I seem to be in the minority. I’ve kind of enjoyed the first 2 episodes. But that also could be because I am so over all the other shit going on and that pretty much anything surf is better than nothing. I do agree that the surf in the second episode was shit but was kinda fun watching Kelly navigate that snapper line up. The 2 or 3 minutes of surf they added to the end of the first episode was decent. Let’s hope the next 2 episodes have some proper surf.
