It seems like only yesterday that our Kelly Slater was gracing the television screen as Jimmy Slade on the 90s hit program Baywatch. This was well before he destroyed his reputation in Stab in the Dark 10 and both surf fans and lovers of procedural beach-based dramas swooned at the dark-eye’d beauty.
Baywatch delivered more stars than just Slater, of course, with Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, David Charvet and Alexandra Paul being introduced to an adoring public. The original show, which aired from 1989 though 1999, becoming the most watched, worldwide, during that span.
The stars each went on to much fame, though Paul, who played Lt. Stephanie Holden, is certainly the most fabulous of all.
Now 62, she was arrested in Wisconsin, over the weekend for liberating cute beagles that had been born and bred for creepy scientific research. According to the New York Post:
(The) actress was among 20 animal rights protesters nabbed for trespassing following the operation at Ridglan Farms — a breeding facility in Blue Mounds, about 30 miles west of Madison, authorities said.
The ’90s star and roughly 60 fellow activists — all clad in white protective suits — were filmed breaking into the facility Sunday morning and clutching the pooches tightly as they filed out.
Ridglan Farms, declares on its website, “…is a USDA Class A dog breeder as well as a USDA licensed Class R research facility. We have a full-time veterinarian on staff who supervises all research studies at our facility. We have an extensive historical database for reproductive performance, pedigrees, hematology/blood chemistry, and genetic anomalies which can be utilized for your research purposes.”
Certainly a spicy meatball.
The Coalition to Save the Ridglan Dogs boasted that 31 dogs had been liberated, though authorities managed to intercept eight of them.
Local sheriff Kalvin Barrett shared, “Some of the beagles taken were recovered and returned to Ridglan Farms, but several beagles remain unaccounted for. Two vehicles, along with burglary tools and other evidence, were seized at the scene.”
He added, at the end, “The Dane County Sheriff’s Office understands how deeply people feel for the beagles at Ridglan Farms, and we respect their right to express that passion through peaceful protests. Our role is to keep everyone safe and to respond when unlawful activity takes place. We encourage anyone with concerns about animal welfare or research practices to engage through lawful and constructive avenues.”
