"The athlete required stitches on his nose..."
Just yesterday, surfers everywhere learned that four in ten of us were destined to have a head or face injury. To prove the veracity, Italo Ferreira proceeded to bounce his face off his surfboard rail, whilst practicing for the Fiji Pro, thereby needing stitches.
His team took to Instagram to share, “We would like to inform you that @italoferreira suffered a minor accident during a training session on Wednesday morning in Fiji (local time). The athlete required stitches on his nose after hitting the rail of his surfboard, but he is stable and receiving medical treatment. Despite the incident, Italo is confirmed to compete in the event. We will provide any updates here.”

The injury appears gross.
Italo, in any case, did compete in the event, taking down the South African Matthew McGillivray in a fancy round two matchup. The waves were nice, lightly ruffled by the wind, and the Brazilian put on quite a show while wearing a bright yellow jersey.
He will face Japan’s Connor O’Leary round 3.
But how are you when it comes to surfing with injury? Do you put on a brave face and act as if nothing is wrong or cry like an infant?
More as the story develops.
