"I'm loud and I'm straight up and I get a lot of attention."
The women’s professional surfing tour was hollowed out in 2005 entertainment-wise at least, when the Gold Coast’s Trudy Todd exited the stage immediately after winning the Rip Curl Pro Malibu.
“I’m loud and I’m straight up and I get a lot of attention,” Todd had told a magazine reporter shortly before the win, announcing the Malibu Pro would be her last event. “That has a lot to do with being a male-driven industry, and me always wanting to be the sort of girl that doesn’t take shit.”
In 2000, Todd was fined $1200 after shoving fellow competitor Samantha Cornish’s head in the sand, after Cornish had eliminated her in a quarter-final of the Quiksilver Pro at Snapper. The same year Todd broke her back but was given an injury wildcard in 2001.
With his trademark finesse, Warshaw described Todd as “petite but well-muscled” and “an aggressive regularfooter, noted for her quick, sharp turns, and not overly concerned with surfing subtleties.”
That refusal to take a backward step, as they say, has followed Todd well past retirement. Nearly two decades after her last heat, the 1999 Triple Crown winner found herself in a Sydney police cell.
Todd, now 52, appeared in the online bail division on Friday charged with contravening an apprehended domestic violence order, accused of breaching a condition barring contact with a protected person.
The long-time Tweed Coast resident applied for bail through Legal Aid solicitor Bethany Burns before Judge Daniel Covington. “She’s staying in Newcastle to care for her aunt, who has recently had a heart attack,” Burns said of Todd’s present circumstances. “She has her own residence… it’s in the process of being sold.”
Little else was said about the circumstances of the ADVO before Covington granted bail, with a condition not to contact the protected person specified in the order. “I’m primarily concerned about victim protection,” Covington said. “She has a limited history, one prior conviction, there are conditions that can be put in place.”
Covington initially adjourned the matter to August 26, before being told that was the date Todd’s property would go to auction. It was instead pushed to September 2 at Downing Centre Local Court.
Todd began surfing at 15 and won six state amateur titles before topping the Australian Championship Circuit in 1993, 1994 and 1996. She also won Billabong Pro events at Snapper Rocks, J-Bay and Maui in the late-1990s, at a time when she was rated third in the world.

Trogg spent a bit of time around here.
Alot of the lads were happy after the pub on friday nights
She seems nice. :/
If I comment what Trogg was called at burleigh growing up, I’ll get cancelled. Cancelled by BG, what an achievement!
No you won’t
There hasn’t been any canceling since Negs left
So ya may as well tell us…
In that case faaaaaaark I’m a high achiever haha
Seen ol’ Trudes heaps on Tinder, at least I had the good sense to never swipe right on her.
Although in the past I thought it was no fun, I’m thankful for my lifelong crazy bitch radar that fully shuts off my interest. Every picture I see of this woman lightly makes my skin crawl. Crazy bitches also immediately dislike me. Fine by me, I’m sure I’ve missed out on some intense experiences, but from an older wiser perspective feel lucky to have lived my life on a separate astral plane from their drama
100%
Better days….

It’s there though. I see it, @PacificNorthPest:disqus
This brings back memories, Trudy used to come across to the island as part of the annual Straddie Assault boardriders comp.
One night a friend of mine broke in to Trudy’s accom and stole her dog.
Spray painted it pink.
Fuck she was dirty about it 🙂
She went all downward dog.
Anyone listen to the recent Pinch my Salt podcast when Sterling goes off on JOB? Refreshing. Actual opinions and takes in surf media.
Until Derek classifies it as a blood feud it didn’t happen
genuinely surprised it hasn’t been posted here yet. Basically calls out JOB for ruining surfing by making soft tops acceptable.
lol, a sponsored pro taking aim at another sponsored pro for ruining surfing.
Spencer is just desperate for clicks and relevance.
You really dislike ol Sterls. Is it the voice?
I completely disregarded him for ages because of the voice, a mate told me to persevere and turns out he was right, smart(ish) and funny
id never heard of him previously
I couldn’t disagree more. He’s def not sponsored anymore and he’s an incredibly thoughtful dude. He’s sticking up for soreness in a way nobody else seems to be, in surf media land. Listen to a few.
I don’t know the dude, but I think he’s pretty at peace with where he stands in surfdom. He ain’t sponsored anymore, either. His show won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s honest and thoughtful and seems like he feels free to speak his mind. He’s carrying on the good fight for coreness in a way I don’t see any surf media doing these days.
I blame Laird for the plague of the SUP
photojournalist..
Key BG quezzies I need answered please Dez. Does she go harder than Pip at Chopes? What are her feelings on culling sharks? What property does she own up here? And most importantly is she pro Israel? Cheers brother
She’s perfect for you.
Not a chance, she hangs with the biggest pack of fuckwits
Ha! She was lurking around the Wreck when I was hanging in the area around 1992. Scary little thing in so many ways.
She’s a pretty smart gal, all considering, so pro-Israel, I’d suggest, better than Pip at Chopes, currently selling house. Hope that helps!
Perfect thanks mate
Trogg
Trudy trogg was famous
Ive heard lezzo domestic violence is off the charts.
Second only to surf journalists
It is. Very over represented.
Xow
Yeah don’t want to go FAFO on that one.
Divorce rates are highest among lezzos and lowest between gay men. Makes perfect sense to me haha
The plot thickens:
“MERCEDES Corby’s business partner at a Gold Coast bar has taken out an apprehended violence order against her.
Former pro surfer Trudy Todd opened Coolangatta’s Laneway cocktail and tapas bar with the sister of convicted Bali drug smuggler Schapelle Corby last year”
