Ridiculous oddities coalescing around transportation?
So late last night I was flipping through the news on my very little iPhone when I stumbled upon the headline “President Welcomes Bikers for Trump to N.J. Golf Club for Rain Soaked Rally.” The story continued:
As rain dumped on his golf club, President Donald Trump raged on Saturday, lashing out at his Justice Department on Twitter before welcoming members of a “Bikers for Trump” fan group to the manicured grounds.
Dozens and dozens of gleaming Harleys, Hondas and other motorcycles descended on the central New Jersey property for what had been billed as an outdoor photo-op with Trump. But pouring rain and flash-flood warnings scrambled the plan, sending soggy bikers inside a crystal-chandeliered clubhouse ballroom, where Trump signed autographs and posed for selfies and his guests booed reporters.
And I thought, “Gleaming Harleys, Hondas and other motorcycles? What the hell is this? Just because a diverse cross-section of folk happen to ride a diverse grab bag of motorcycle doesn’t mean they should self-identify as a group. It would be like…”
And then, then long minutes later, I was struck by a bolt of lightening.
“…it would be like people who surf self-identifying as ‘surfers.'”

Is this true? Is “surfer” as ridiculous a demarcation as “biker?” I completely understand subsets like the Hell’s Angels or Da Hui rallying around a shared set of specific principles but surfers? Bikers?
I totally thought the bikers, with their Harleys and Hondas and Polaris Slingshots looked completely ridiculous for those ten long minutes. Giggling at how hyped they were on their preferred method of transportation. Hahahah… shit. Now I wonder if the world looks at surfers the same way.

Just this Saturday I was jogging to the beach from my house for a surf (I live less than 100m from the high tide mark) when a guy leaned out the window of his car, threw an ironic shaka, and said ‘surfs up………dickhead!’
I was confused at first, than I realised. Everyone is laughing at us.

Most (not all) Harley riders are part of a very distinct subgroup in the motorcycling world. An odd group, they think they’re the cool kids and only associate with each other so their self held beliefs about their “top of the pecking order” social status are never really challenged.
Meanwhile, the rest of the motorcycling world thinks most Harley folks are tools who pay piles of cash for overpriced, slow, piece of shit motorcycles. They are the butt of jokes, wear goofy “biker” shit when they ride and are generally the lamest. The orcs of motorcycling.
I have been riding motorcycles on and off my entire life and have heard a non-Harley riding motorcycle owner call himself a “biker” less than 5 times. However, Harley folks almost always call themselves “bikers”. Draw your own conclusions about how this may or may not relate to surfing.

No . Keeping people apart is never a good idea in the long run . It didn’t work in Europe . It didn’t work in Apartheid South Africa . Why would it work in the former Spanish colony of California who stole it off the Indians ? Who are the illegals in this case ? regarding nation built walls in the the last 30 years or so. At a minimum it’s a mixed record. Butte being the US and Trump as president, my guess is it will be an extremely effective wall. After all, we put a man on the moon.
CA history: sparsely populated land claimed originally by Spain. Some time later taken by the new country of Mexico. Some time later, taken by the US (spoils of war). People are confused in thinking that CA had a large indigenous population that was stolen by the US. This isn’t so. And the few natives that did live there would no be doubt have preferred too be ruled by the US, not Mexico who’s cultural racism is/was far greater than the US. Anyway, the people coming north illegally have no claim to CA or any other SW state.

The wall prototypes are gnarly, have you seen them? Last year Navy seals were given the opportunity to try scaling a couple of the top submitted prototypes. As I recall they were even given tools to use. They were not able to get over most of the them.
