Mystery: World Surf League President of Content, Media, Etc. caught holding a paddle-less mini SUP!

What sort of extreme innovation is this?

You know our World Surf League President of Content, Media, Etc. Erik “ELo” Logan and how much he enjoys spending time in the water. From all outward appearances he enjoys spending time in the water more than you, me or any grumpy local. Every picture on his popular Instagram account features him smiling broadly, ear to ear, in a way that nobody here has ever smiled and especially while in the water.

We are too busy glaring and cursing under our breath.

Part of what may be providing our President’s bliss is the fact that he SUPs regularly and, as far as I can tell, exclusively. Now, I have only ridden a SUP once in the surf. It happened to be on Oahu’s famed North Shore just a click southwest from Waimea. I can’t recall what possessed me but one was sitting there in the yard of the house where I was staying. I saw some wave breaking out on a reef and decided to give it a go. There I paddled across the calm water to that wave, caught it, fell off and was drug across the reef as the hundred-plus pounds of SUP tugged me toward shore, clutching that damned paddle.

It was unpleasant.

Which is why the above photo is so intriguing. After my very bad experience I thought, “I’ll only try SUPing again if they can figure out how to miniaturize the obese boards and also lose the paddles.”

Has science figured it out?

What is our President holding?

Ok the exception– point taken–Ive even done this on the very rare occasion if it was a long walk and super hot and my board was facing the sun and I felt my wax was getting soft– this does not look like the case here. It still looks kooky to me……

Pretty sure he has got a paddle somewheres. He just stashed it for the photo op because he was tired of being known as a pole dancer of the sea like all the other paddleboarders.

How to work on getting my blood pressure down according to my doctor: reduce sodium intake drastically, more cardio exercise, lose 10 pounds… I’ve come to realize I need to add on my own way – looking away at photos and reports on this shining example of everything going wrong in surf-culture… Chas, I love you man, and consume all you write and provide. But on Elo… let’s face it… the kid-gloves-love fest weeks back on the podcast with David Lee Scales (love him too) and this corporate kook was equivalent to The Gremlins flick us old guys watched as kids in the 80’s… the cute, well-manicured, Gizmo was fed at the wrong time…this has spun well out of control… we’re nearing the climax of the 2019 surf culture version of The Gremlins. How does this movie end for surf culture as embraced by us old, pissed-off, proles who are tired of dodging wavestorms, SUPs, 4-day package surf camp graduates, etc. in knee-high mush every day of a hellish summer on the coasts of the continental U.S.?… Does it end?

he’s stepping up and ditching the paddle, at least his fins are in the right direction.

Overuse of the shaka and now moving on to “aloha friday”. And even moving on to pillaging Aussie terms like “yew”. This guy is like the aliens from Independence Day only instead of destroying planets it will soon be regional surf cultures.

I’m comfortable claiming meta-cultural appropriation on this: you see, Elo has appropriated the Shaka from “us”, you know, Cali Surfer culture, though we originally appropriated it from from the Innocent Hawaiians, we should all be nonetheless outraged!
By the way hi, FF frank!

I can smell a kook a mile away. And that guy with a painted on swallow tail is a barney. Not a kook. Which is worst? A barney selling surf is of coarse. They have way more potential to damage surf spots.

Our president?? Chas, some things are never funny even if said in jest. This dude (Elo) and the Wsl (Dirk)–Make no Mistake–are ‘Heavily Invested’ financially in this and want to bring surfing to the world as a money making scam (to recoup and strengthen) their investments.
This IS ‘NOT’ A GAME TO THEM–THEY ARE BUSINESS MEN and won’t rest till there’s a board in every garage and soft-tops and Sups in your local line-up and some cash coming in–THIS IS THEIR STATED GOAL. You need to think twice before taking them lightly…….

Chas said in a previous ep of The Grit that he’d sell this site to the WSL for X Millions. Chas can do what he wants, dont be surprised when he does

I wouldn’t be surprised–its one way Dirk could stop the negative feedback (also known as the truth?) Chas and Elo did look a little chummy in that last pic.

What you did not know is that it was a “race to the bottom”. Worst thing to hit mankind in 100 years is the SUP in waves. Flat water for fun and exercise – why not, but keep the the board and mop away from the rest of us.

samwaters

Well, it rubs some of the wax off onto you or your wetsuit making a smooth spot on the board and it just plain feels weird.

Frodo, my arms are actually long enough to tilt the board at an angle. I am sorry if this is too much of an exercise to your imagination.
Best regards, Weslley.

gotta, say that when it is windy and cold, or it has been a dam long session, I will tend to let the wax stick to my body to help me carry it in on the rocks or the long trudge through the snow with mitties on.

From the Old Norse name Eiríkr, derived from the elements ei “ever, always” and ríkr “ruler”

The likely origin of this surname is a place located near Auchinleck, in Ayrshire. The place name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic lagan, which is a diminutive of lag, which in turn means “hollow”.
Meaning: “Little hollow”

This hollow little man is the ruler of all that is hollow and he will beat you with his paddle and corporate composure if you ever question his rule or lack of interior. A simple psychological technique is administered by these hollow little beings, a barrage of images and words that, to the novice, give the impression of substance, but are in actual fact an insipid infection in the fabric of society. It is often those outside of this fabric, the grumpy local, who are first to identify and most vocal in opposition to this heinous disease. Modern technology has allowed this scourge to take hold of the swarming masses in unprecedented numbers. Our only hope is the innate human skill to, eventually and collectively, smell the bullshit we’re being fed and spit it back into the cavernous vacuum that is “ELo”’s soul.

One way was by selling advertising commercials–and yes–I did see a yougurt and Burger King ad. on the Wsl which I dont think will last and not much of anything else. Who’s really gonna advertise to a bunch of coastal vagabonds saving all their money for their next surf trip………would you?
