It’s not about the vanquished or the conqueror. It’s not about Hawaiian sovereignty issues or Hawaiian blood. It’s about corporate profiteers appropriating Hawaii’s most valuable public resource – our beaches and waves – during the most rare and desirable days of the year, completely shutting out the public. This corporate attitude of entitlement of which the apartheid west coast surf media has co-opted since the beginning is and always has been, despicable. Listening to mainland haole like you and Scales stupidly pontificate on race or any Hawaii issue, surfing or otherwise, is hilarious.
I said it last year, multi billionaire Ziff and the WSL expressed no appreciation and contributed nothing, zero, zip, nada to any Hawaii charities or the counties last year. Yet it’s the Hawaii lifeguards, firefighters, taxpaying residents, first responders with supporting Hawaii infrastructure that make the contests happen. There is no monetary or cultural gain for Hawaii. It’s just a kook show circus that diminishes Hawaii and Hawaiian surfing. Until the current contest paradigm changes drastically you can bet that WSL and other corporate pirates can expect escalating major pushback here. Cunilinguistic that, you kooks.

Agreed – you’ve been fairly measured lately when it comes to Hawaii. I was venting more at Scales and WSL. But I don’t think there will be any more 2 week contest periods at Pipe and the ass kissing at Peahi is over. Pissed off a lot of the boys last year when Harry Bryant was seeded at prime Pipe just because Vans is his sponsor.
