Controversy erupted, overnight, in Israel as the country’s new coalition government threatened to break apart under the crushing weight of an extra large SUP and its paddle.
Perched on the eastern Mediterranean, the usually quiet, non-polarizing parliamentary democracy has just elected its thirty-sixth government made up of centrist Yesh Atid, liberal Blue and White, conservative Yamina and a smattering of other parties.
The group unseated Israel’s longest serving Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, with Yamina’s Naftali Bennett taking the reins of power.
All was looking fine enough until days ago when a video of the new tourism minister, Yoel Razvozov from Yesh Atid, was released depicting him walking up the beach holding a gargantuan SUP and equally large paddle.
It was captioned, “Something they forgot to tell us about the new government: Yoel Razvozov is the most handsome tourism minister we’ve ever had.”
Clearly, and rightly, incensed by stand-up paddleboarding, Bennett stared Razvozov down at the next cabinet meeting and seethed, “Yoel, stop putting the men to shame in front of their women.”
Razvozov, 40, chastened, replied “It’s just for marketing Israeli Beaches,” according to The Times of Israel.
It goes without saying that no country, big or small, wants an increase in SUPpers and the scourge of awkward they drag in their unpleasant wake. That participating in the SUP life is a great shame for anyone but especially for men who are married or dating.
Pundits are split as to whether SUPgate will be enough to topple the government or if it can withstand the serious blow.

Now first, let’s tentatively pinpoint the birth of the Hasake in the temporal spectrum of history. The Hasake was originally “designed for near shore fishing by Arabs and later adopted as a vehicle for the lifeguards,” according to topsea.com, an Israeli surf website. Now, the fact is, if you look at the number of family units they encountered (22,000+), in which on average you’re looking at at least 2 kids, although from pictures its realistically more kids than that, well, then you’re looking at about 60K kids arriving just in May. The U.S. Constitution does not relegate blacks to “three-fifths of a person” status. Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution states: “Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.”
The “other Persons” were slaves.
The 1787 Constitutional Convention addressed the apportionment in the House of Representatives and the number of electoral votes each state would have in presidential elections based on a state’s population. The Southern states wanted to count the entire slave population. This would increase their number of members of Congress. The Northern delegates and others opposed to slavery wanted to count only free persons, including free blacks in the North and South.
Counting the whole number of slaves benefited the Southern states and reinforced the institution of slavery. Minimizing the percentage of the slave population counted for apportionment reduced the political power of slaveholding states.

I think you missed the part where in the constitution they counted slaves as 3/5th of a person. Worrying about why is irrelevant. That’s not what being a Constitutional Originalist means. It means on issue concerning Constitutional interpretation, the meaning of the words do not change with the times, but are meant to be static, and interpreted with the meaning originally intended.
Your interpretation that the Article regarding apportionment of Representation lawfully defines slaves as 3/5ths of a person versus 5/5ths of a person is wrong. It was counting free versus not free for purposes of Representation.
Being a Constitutional Originalist doesn’t mean I want the Constitution to be the text as drafted from the Constitutional Conventions. It means the words haven’t taken on new meaning. Words have meaning, and that’s important. If it wasn’t, lefties wouldn’t be constantly trying so hard to change the meaning of words to fit their agenda.

It would be more appropriate to truly appreciate the context of the time. The United States did not invent slavery. For thousands of years, the world over, slavery was the norm. In 74 years, the United States of America went from not even existing, to outlawing slavery. What the world considered normal in the context of that time, the United States outlawed, within one (1) lifetime. That’s an incredible achievement that should be given respect. It also adds an incredible amount of context to what the Framers were doing.
I think it also important to consider context of that time in terms of recognition that there were many black land owners that owned slaves. The ownership of and profiteering from slave ownership was not unique to white people. Nathaniel Butler was a black land owner that owned slaves, but amassed wealth by capturing runaway slaves who were either returned for award or bought and resold for profit. Justus Angel was a black woman, and a real bitch. Her reputation for cruelty to her slaves was only outdone by her focus of increasing her wealth. Marie Therese Metoyer. Antoine Dubuclet. Andrew Durnford. These, among many others, were all black, and all slave owners. It’s important to add context to the time of our Founding because you’d be remiss not to.
