A second consecutive win for the Australian child prodigy who now moves into second on the tour ratings!
The Australian surf prodigy and London fashion icon Jack Robinson has dipped his head and snorted up a series of the world’s best surfers, including world champion Gabriel Medina and current world number one Filipe Toledo, at the Quiksilver Pro, G-Land.
It’s Jackie’s second consecutive tour win, and the third of his career.
One month ago, Jackie accounted for John John Florence using airs and a three-turn combo that cooked the two-time world champ and two-time winner of the Margaret River Pro like a hamburger on a griddle in the dying light.
Today, in pretty but inconsistent two-to-three-foot waves, Jackie used his granite physique and ferret reflexes to hump and belly dance around Toledo in a close final.
With four seconds left in the final, and needing more than a six-and-a-half, Jackie plunged the icepick to the hilt, scoring a seven.
“It’s crazy isn’t it, how unpredictable the ocean is,” said Jackie, who won his semi-final against Gabriel Medina in similar fashion.
In the women’s, Johanne Defay used skills honed on Indian Ocean reefs to out-surf Carissa Moore on G-Land’s glittery aprons. The win shifted Defay from eighth in the world to third.

Maybe that’s why Chas chose to cover the ASP Euro tour from the distant periphery? Yeah, a good haircut is at least as entertaining as small french beach break. A coffee and choco croissant has to beat driving around all day hiking on to dunes and observing bad tides?
Maybe JP will drop some running stories. Various alcohols mixing to cut himself while cuddling with his mate on a sleep over because he forgot his sleeping bag type of shit? Dude is talented, so he can spin it anyway he wants and a play by play seems pointless.
Until the WSL gets out of it’s own way, you can type the stories months in advance.
I didn’t watch it, as I’ve made clear, but I’m going to refer to the size of the waves in ever-decreasing terms. Just a warning.

Pip got underscored the whole event. That said, he got lucky in heat v Griff- who got underscored on his crazy high speed backdoor barrel wave.
Medina underscored a little bit in heat v. Robbo.

Italo deserved to lose & his style is gettin old on the eyes. Thought he would ha e cut out the 50 spaz pumps b4 every turn. Adriano finally did for the better & just in time before he got passed up by the Brazzo groms.
Never really understood this website. Derek it seems that you enjoy to poke fun at peoples personal lives such as Medinas break from come competition cause of a marriage break down and as you said “mental issues”. You say you are a journalist. Why don’t you actually do that? You are intelligent. Why don’t you investigate the amount of surfers that have mental issues and drug issues on the tour in an ethical and respectful way. Wont be easy but give it a go.

I have a special spot in my heart for SWorld and Tracks had moments, but the US produced media was drivel at best.
Totally agree with you. When I say the demise it seems that the writers never want to really push the envelope of good writing as they piss off the advertisers of sorts. When I say good writing that does not mean actually bullying people. It means being a real journalist and giving the reader thought provoking info on a subject.

Surfers must not be too earnest. It’s in the rule book. It’s okay to care as long as you don’t care too much. Can’t wear it on your sleeve. So if BG were like Bono, it wouldn’t connect with most of their audience. There’s a book called The Drop that deals with surfing and addiction/mental illness.

Robbo will now be officially considered the saviour of Aussie pro surfing with expectations of a handful of world titles during his career.
Lets hope he can come through with it,unlike the last mega hyped Aussie child prodigy that achieved at least 80% less on tour than everyone thought he would and only had one serious dig at winning a world title in his career.

Competitive surfing is not just about world titles. Julian Wilson is a legend and a threat in any conditions. One of the wordls’s best regardless of not having a world title.

I’m just saying for all the hype he was getting,he ended up pretty massively under achieving.
Taj Burrow never won a world title either,but was a way better competitor than JW,even without being as hard a charger in the heavy stuff.

I really like Jack’s surfing but his 3 event Wins plus the semi today he turned on the dying seconds with really close calls. I think WSL needs a New Aussie star to engage fans there.
If the surf back then had of been like it was for this event,no one would remember there ever were events there 25 years ago.
He also hasn’t thanked God yet. Apparently everything in Brazil is thanks to God.
