Anyhow, the core surf fan looking for something new, fresh can be inspired by Scotland, home to BeachGrit’s own World Surf League Championship Tour correspondent JP Currie.

Rebel tour would be easier if it was regional then regions compete crowning 1 world champ. Maybe even just have competitor’s send video of 3 best waves from specific spots globally their choosing of when but in 2 year window. then videos get judged and 12 competitor’s get invited to compete for world champ on 3rd year.
Anyone think rebel surfers want/are willing/able to get their shit together and organize anything?

Yeah, the CWC was a very entertaining event. Place seems to be very consistent, I don’t remember watching many heats on crap surf. Very enjoyable event indeed.
I am all for a rebel tour, basically ever since zosea sold it and some tool had the bright idea to call it a league.
But the wsl won’t allow the pros to surf the rebel tour, theyll hit them with breach of contract. Might have to start with kids who havent turned pro yet.
When i worked in Russia i saw some epic surf. You could discover 100 waves in Sakhalin easy (its about as big as south island NZ) And if you found the next j bay well, maybe it would be worth it. But 6 months of the year there is no surf because the sea is completely frozen.

Thurso was a 5+ hour drive from me and I got skunked at least 4 times. Once I merely got dragged down the coast in a howling rain storm. I gave up.
Polynesians invented surfing on tropical reefs for a reason.

All the pros signed a contract forbidding them from competing on a rebel tour. This is why egghead got in hot water at that maldives comp recently.
Wsl owns all the comps with the exception of the triple crown. This is why vans had to make that lame vlog thing because the wozzle got the shits and wouldn’t sanction the events.
Ultimately it’s the only IP the wsl has, plus the wave pool.
Course you could easily rename a comp and hold it at the same location, which is probably what the ISA is going to do in 2024.
We need to get our heads around the idea that pro surfing is doomed.

New York and France WCT comps both had much better waves than most of the stops on this year’s WCT. And Owen made $300k in NY — now the winner gets $100k, which with inflation is worth a LOT less than it was when Owen won in NY.

The Thurso Oneill cold water event was pretty rad. They gave people swords as trophies.
Brenno Dorrington won it one year from memory. Ripped in great waves on finals day. Although why any responsible adult would hand that bloke a sword I’ll never know
Adam Robertson won it one year too. Might be the only qs event he ever won.
