The joys and hardships, but mostly hardships, of surf instruction. It is, of course, basically summertime in the northern hemisphere and with it drippy ice-cream cones, longer days and swells of folk who have decided to fulfill the dream of learning to surf. Easy for them to Yelp a surf school at whichever beach they plan on visiting. Hardship, again though, for the instructors themselves. First, permits are required and vigorously controlled. Second, various CPR trainings etc. are non-negotiable. Third, etc.
You can imagine the frustration this morning, then, after a California court ruled that beach yoga is protected speech and, thus, not to be regulated.
The three judge panel on the US ninth circuit court of appeals, which finds its home in San Francisco, overturned a San Diego judgement and decided in favor of two yoga instructors who sued the city after it banned beach yoga classes of four, or more, people at shoreline parks and beaches.
“Because the ordinance targets teaching yoga, it plainly implicates [the instructors’] first amendment right to speak,” the ruling stated, finding that the ordinance violated the instructors’ rights.
San Diego’s attorneys, frustrated, countered, “The city’s legitimate governmental interests in this case include the preservation, safety, and orderly use of its parks and beaches by all visitors and residents who visit them.”
The federal judges did not care, though, and the yoga instructors immediately started teaching again, surf instructors just yards away and green with envy, wondering why surf instruction is not also protected speech.

I did the 5 hour drive via personal driver and got in about 2am. Was thankful the driver didn’t fall asleep. They dropped me off and turned around to drive back to the airport. Crazy. Loved the whole drive, though. Indo is its own form of craziness.

What is happening is that people got fed up with the way all the bullshit is being executed in the US at the moment. You can only push so much before something snaps. When President Trump was voted into office on his hardline stance against illegal immigration, he initiated a program called: “Worst of the Worst”, which DHS and ICE are ordered to enact. DHS and ICE have determined certain criminal aliens to be arrested and deported based on criminal records and primal activity.
When ICE showed up in Los Angeles to raid establishments and residences in an attempt to detain and arrest criminals, they were met with organized resistance, in which many federal officers were harmed and vehicles damaged. The protest riots accelerated and rioters became extremely violent, threatening the lives of Federal Officer and the communitys, at which time the mayor and police chief of LA gave a stand down order (do not confront or arrest “protestors”), which emboldened protestors to became more volatile. LAPD even went to the extent of putting up concrete barriers trapping federal officers in the L.A. Federal Building and making them sitting ducks for rioters to pelt with bricks, concrete and other life endangering items. Rioters were caught on camera manufacturing Molotov cocktails to use against Federal Officers. Rioters also shut down the 101 freeway which runs through the center of Los Angeles and threw bricks, concrete and rocks at police, federal and emergency vehicles from overpasses and street sides, and burned multiple vehicles in the middle of streets and roads.
Recognizing that Gov. Newsom, Mayor Bass and the police chief were supportive of the rioters, aiding the rioters and allowing the riots to grow, President Trump ordered 2000 National Guard to Los Angeles in an effort to try to stop the destruction of L.A.; which is his actual job as President.
Through all the chaos, numerous dangerous illegal immigrant felons and criminals were arrested by ICE including murderers, rapists, child molesters, domestic abusers, drug traffickers and dealers, human traffickers, gang members, burglars and convicted assaulters. Almost all of the criminals arrested had active jail and prison sentencers but had been let out into the public due to Los Angeles and California Sanctuary Laws.
The Insurrection Act is among the most powerful emergency powers at the disposal of a president, who can use it to deploy the U.S. armed forces and the militia to suppress insurrections, quell civil unrest or domestic violence, and enforce the law when it is being obstructed.
When a State, City or Municipality fails to abide by Federal Law and actively promote or engages in civil unrest, obstruction of justice, harboring fugitives or anything that could jeopardize or harm the lives, property and well being of American citizens, the federal government has the authority to step in and attempt to bring order to the unrest.
Last time national guard was deployed to L.A was during the 1992 Rodney King riots, so it is not “unprecedented”.

As far as due process goes, you follow the legal process of entering the U.S., you get due process. you don’t, then you shouldn’t expect it.
I was deported from Australia for visa overstay. no “due process”, just “you’re here illegally, you are being detained and you need to leave our country”….which I completely agreed with and abided with the order.

I used to live in La Jolla/PB and this is a bad judgment. No one was ever banned from doing yoga at beaches, the issue in San Diego was they were doing paid classes (without a permit) and taking up entire scenic parks at peak times, which prevented anyone else from using them. They tried to circumvent the lack of a permit by making the payments “voluntary donations”, but they really weren’t.
They also would routinely tell other parkgoers who were already there that they had to move out of the way so they could set up for yoga.
Sad to see a couple of dipshit judges handing public parks in the state over to private businesses under the guise of “free speech”
