"I was just doing me, just free," says Jack Robinson. "Just free."
The Western Australia Jack Robinson, famous for a jaw-dropping physique and pinched angular features similar to Jeremy Allen White and Timothy Chalamet, has defied the almost impossibility of his task, to win Teahupoo or miss Finals Day, beating surfing’s Gandhi with relative ease a few moments ago.
Jack Robinson, who has enjoyed thirteen seasons at Teahupoo, first slaying the famous wave as a fourteen year old, was barely troubled throughout the entire event.
In the final, and needing to win, as mentioned, to compete in the last-ever Finals Day, Robinson began with his highest-scoring wave ever at Teahupoo, splitting the snatch, as they say in the business, for a 9.50. The final was quickly secured with a 7.50 backup.

(This is a nine-ish from his semi where he crunched two nines.)

Robinson sticks to what the judges want, late, deep, it don’t change much.

Griffin Colapinto, along with Robinson, was a stand-out of the event. Although sometimes a little vulnerable to the whole pro surfing enterprise and the murderous intentions of Brazilian surf fans, Colapinto rains optimism, a great skill and is divorced from ego and hatred.
Molly Picklum, meanwhile, proved she’s the queen of Pipe and Teahupoo with a real easy win over a frustrated Caity Simmers, whose dreams were steamrolled by a couple of foamballs.

Possibly a JP Currie story to follow.

Picklum is a cert whatever you analyze it. The men’s not so much.
I miss JP and his formula:
Teaching writing running cold rain mud forests. The ordinariness of life. Quiet desperation. Angst. Resilience.
Then transition to surfing.
Cote: “What did your coach tell you in the channel?”
Crosby: “Tommy was like, talking to me, but I couldn’t really hear him, the Aussie accent.” 😂
JP where are you????? We need a decent contest review writer back
Griff loves hip hop, gosh! We all remember him rapping when he first qualified for the dream tour.
He was just freestylin’, havin’ fun.
Gosh, some of the WSL judges think he’s perhaps up there with Biggie, Tupac, MF DOOM, Rakim, Chuck D etc as one of the best to ever do it!
Whaddya Love most about Cole’s dye-job, Flic?
Who gives a fuck what Jack looks like and why is this even mentioned as such an important part of this drivel?
Nothing competes with this event. The backdrop, the boats in the channel, the waves, the last minute horoics, Turpel’s voice crescendoing at the end of every wave ridden for days on end. Just spectacular.
…it’s a cavern!!!
Did you know that if Caity made that bomb she probably would have gotten a 10? Said every commentator at least twice.
Judges absolutely averse to giving a 9 so I’m calling bullshit on that
The fact she gave that a dig even though she is the size of a thimble was impressive. On mute of course.
True dat, it’s my own damn fault for not muting the whole lot of them. Where was AJ?
I miss her too
Nice work Robbo!
Jack storms into Fiji for the title and Freo Dockers win the GF !
what are the odds?
Yago been the better surfer all year. If Jaroc wins the final it will be a empty title.
So you say
Simply Stating the stats as per the ranking score sheet.
Molly asserted control today. Excellent work.
I always thought Griff would be more of the hot rodent man. Jack quite square jawed etc
Ethan: rock wallaby hot
The comfort level of Zen floating around in the channel is astounding for a two year old.
Ha ! “Can now call herself lexususus Tahiti pro champion “
she’s too good for that !
Go Jack ! Go Molly !

A very real possibility and great potential outcome for one of the best ever in heavy barreling waves but its worth mentioning that Jordy scored the equal highest wave score in the comp and he has less heats to surf in Fiji.
Possibly a JP story. I did chuckle at that.
But hey hats off to Jack, what an absolutely legendary final 5 campaign.
He’s a man with a gravitas not seen in a real long time.
JP?
Jackie! But JP too.
Yea, jp … he’ll be back grovelling once he takes a hiding at the bookies. Hahahahahar
But, go Robbo – scoop the pool my son.
You can do it !
I wouldn’t mind if Yago gets there coz Yago is cool but the chest beating from the Zillas … ain’t looking forward to that so go Jack!
Jack claims as hard as any of them
He’s streaky.
He used to hang around at our surf factory in France as a twelve-year-old and ask me all sorts of questions about his boards , and his dad was always tripping about concaves and water flows, we thought was a bit extreme as a dad, but then this absolute hell man from the west told me in the ments that despite trev being a nutter he protected jack from the surf industry and surfing association mogals, kept them at bay, told them to leave him alone as they were doing their own thing, and in retrospect, I think that really saved and molded jackky
whatever happened to his dad? wasnt he getting skulled on the free beers from billabong the whole time?
Is this a veiled aspersion directed at Mr Toledo?
BG, first to announce the winner, last to write about it.
deserved a written lol…
