The coolest reptile on the planet just got cooler.
When I was a young boy in Papua New Guinea, I was told to beware of the dangerous saltwater crocodile. The prehistoric beasts are known man-eaters and can run very fast on land and so I was taught to run in a zigzag, if ever pursued, because apparently saltwater crocodiles cannot run zigzags very well.
They are also, apparently, relatively poor swimmers.
And, thus, scientists have been confused for years as to how the large reptiles ended up on so many different islands including, but not limited to, Papua New Guinea.
Well, advancements in technology have finally unlocked the riddle. Saltwater crocodiles, you see, are adept surfers. The aforementioned scientists affixed sonar things to multiple crocs and gathered data points which showed the surfing.
According to IFL Science:
For a croc, it seems “surf’s up” is within an hour of the tide changing, as this was the window during which they would begin long-distance travel. Doing so meant they could essentially surf ocean currents, and when the tide died down again, they’d haul themselves onto a riverbank and wait for the tide to change.
Their adventures took them vast distances, regularly traveling over 50 kilometers (31 miles) from their home to the river mouth and even out into the open sea. Such trips were completed in bursts of 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) stretches while the surf was good.
So there you have it.

If drifting with a current is ‘surfing’ then I’ve put in far more time than I’ve realised fighting that fucking sweep on a southerly.
South swells always are worse even than the long period Easterly’s. Goddam I hate paddling against em
Fuck. Should have actually read the article. Doesn’t bode well for Gil’s trip to PNG in November….
Watch the cunts get overrun by VAL freshwater crocs who think the know how to surf because they’ve spent time in some inland tank.
Crocs are ugly
Cuntly too.
I don’t know why, but the first thing I thought of when I saw the pic of the lounging croc……was Chas.
could be the scarf, or the croc skin loafers, or something……..in the eyes
When you say Papua New Guinea and running from crocodiles you mean Bastendorff Beach and chased by tweakers.
AI – write me a sharticle of around 300 words. Ummm, ohhh let’s see, AI write it about crocodiles and …. Surfing !
Isn’t it supposed to be “Thank you for your attention to this matter”?
A Salt Lyfe moment…

Chas, were your parents missionaries? And I don’t mean in bed.
Dad taught English at school for missionary kids!
So, about 3 days/weeks/months/years of childhood in PNG?
Just over a year but an informative one. 1st grade and part of 2nd.
Excellent use of an exclaimation point.
What’s your position on missionaries?
Cunts, every last one of them.
WAIT, WHAT are you an ex-Mormon like me or of a similar ilk?
Not ex! A proud Christian (grew up nondenominational but go Episcopalian now).
Well done!!
Missionaries been running around causing havoc way before Mormonism was established.
Those Mormons love to copy the great work of other religions! So we are left to wonder if Chas is a missionary for surfing and BG is his pulpit(bully pulpit) when he isn’t wondering the earth preaching to the great unwashed. I for one have become a devout disciple of the gospel of Chas and Derek!
Far more skeered of crocs than sharks when im in centro americano
One was recently in the lineup in southern nica
a kilo or a croc?
Or a shark
I’m more fearful of seeing a pound of cocaine on a table in Central America than crocs or sharks
idk, either a crocodile or shark on a table in Central America seems like it would be pretty unnerving.
would be unerving if they were dancing on the table?
Thanks for putting that in my head knowing there is a possible shroom enhanced event in my Labor day weekend plans
I’ve had dreams that start like that. And shoot my way outta there, sell the blow and marry primo Penelope Cruz. And unlike
Jung, I can keep up both on the intake, and the output. Good dreams. Horrible life.
You do realize that dreams like that manifest from the Spicoli Brook Shields rescue dream?
I’m pleased.
