"My board hit me and I was rushed to hospital with a fractured skull, fractured right frontal sinus cavity and air on the brain."
The almost thirty-six-year-old longboard world champ Haz Roach, one of the prettier surfers in or out of the water, thick lips and a sparse reddish head, has shared a wild ol what-I-did-on-my-summer-vacation update on Instagram.
See, Harrison, who won the log crown in 2022, got his board in the head six months back and this slim beautiful boy witth the fine boned features and an unencumbered happy spirit, bright and open to learning etc, hence his world title, was forced into brain surgery to keep him alives.
I just rode my first wave in 6 months. In Feb, my board hit me and I was rushed to Royal Brisbane Hospital – fractured skull, fractured right frontal sinus cavity, air on the brain. In April I had brain surgery – they cut me from ear to ear, peeled off my face, cut a window through my skull and removed the bone before piecing everything back together with a few titantium tidbits and 58 staples. Post op, I had a bleed, a week later it worsened and I got a fresh surgi-sponge in prep for Face/Off the sequel. Luckily, like the movie, which was shit at first but got better with age, the surgeons decided to give it some time to gather critical acclaim. While I’ve been tempted to flood your feed with zero-context hospital posts over the last 6 months, I thought I’d wait to be able to share a happy ending, which came this week in the form of an ‘all-clear’ from the Neuro team. I know a surf injury isn’t a big deal with what’s going on in the world right now (and rightly so), but it has been a big deal for me personally. So, take this excessively long caption as my cathartic exercise in closure. And if anyone has the number for the guy at Gath, I’m in the market for a helmet.

Haz Roach ain’t always on the log, he’ll also drain your breath on a middish sorta craft.

A who
A who’s who of surfing, including Stephanie Gilmore, a world champ eight times over, are praying and thinking of Haz Roach.
You can, too. Close eyes, feel the sunshine of your spirit fill your heart and head, bow forward.
Namaste.

So very “flick “(thats what i callout bullshit in the surf world with now days ).
Shreds on all craft along with that dude from Coffs.
Now that’s a well-written IG caption. BG writers could learn a thing or two here.
its wild that a surfer can have a near death injury and their IG account continues to post surf trip clips and brand deals for several months.. makes me wonder who else is out on injury but their IG continues to post like nothing happened.
something feels off about it
My face gets peeled off every week
it’s called MDMA ! deal with it ya pussie
Lol
peeled off or just melting??? LOL
Steal your face!
Calling anyone a ‘surf champion’ for tootling along on a longboard since the late 1960’s is funny, hilarious, or even ridiculous.
But not legitimate…
nah..watched a fair bit of Harry at Noosa, with all his longboarding friends….looks so much fun in waist high or less……most ride all types of boards…..but make their living from the long board scene……
Current WSL Championship Tour is soooo much better.
Does that include Joel Tudor?
Weak take
Namaste here…in the comments. Stupid fucking hipsters.
Woah, thats some perspective. I’m not going to complain about my current black eye and half a tooth missing after my fins hit me in the head.
karma for being kunty.
When you trip over the cat and while brushing your teeth in the morning and fracture your hip. It was karmic Karma for this Kunty comment about the Kunty karma.
Cat-astro-phic.
Looks to be a legit entry to lineup of this summer’s paranormal movie releases.
