"OH NO!"
But what is the worst injury you’ve suffered whilst practicing this, our Sport of Queens? A broken limb? Stitches? Twisted joint? Back injury? I feel that one, the back injury, must be the worst. I don’t suffer any back issues, personally, but people who do appear wretched. Pain enveloping even the smallest of actions to say nothing for a full layback snap.
Well, the comedian Amy Schumer can count herself of the Les Miserables and, in fact, blamed surfing for her woes. The 44-year-old was made very famous a decade ago, bursting onto the scene with a starring turn in the film Trainwreck. She was pretty famous before that doing standup and sketch comedy etc.
Schumer, anyhow, took to Instagram to share with her over 12 million followers, “Since my surfing injury back in the day my L5 has been killing me. Today I got a laminectomy! It’s a short recovery and when I’m feeling better I will buy a bra!”

The L5, according to X-ray technicians, is the fifth and last vertebra on the spine. The first two, C1 and C2, are considered the worst to injure. A laminectomy, according to doctors, is a surgical procedure where part of the vertebra is removed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.
Many celebrities were quick to shower Schumer with “get well soons” including Bethenny Frankel, Tracie Morrissey and Gary Gulman.
Do you have any thoughts on this?
Is your back strong or are you, like Schumer, considering removing part of a vertebra or two?

Insufferably unfunny person kooks it. Schadenfreude for the win!
She was in Ghostbusters, right?
My surfing injuries are fairly tame. Worst was the nose of my board into my face. Lost some feeling between my lip and my chin and occasionally I drool a bit but at least I can bite it fucking hard when a guy needs to.
Got a few fins to the head from not putting hands over my head after eating shit. Fuck it hurt and looked good for blood dripping out when wading out of the water.
Sorry for all you bastards that have done your back. Fuck that.
Total nonsense. Case dismissed.
To be clear, she suffered the injury in her high school years and only just got an operation to help the pain.
Pre-wavestorm days.
this is Beach Grit.
Clarity is not welcome here.
HHaha
Happy 13th Birthday Kelia Gallina.
She should sue wavestorm
Wavestrom should sue her.
only thing wrong with this article is referring to Amy Schumer, as funny.
got smashed at Sandy’s L2 compression fracture and dislocated hip, much gratitude even though lots of mobility issues and a hip resurfacing i really dodged a bullet
Sandy’s no joke!
Suffering USA!
I had the same same procedure as Ozzie. Four spinal fusion surgeries later..
Unless you’re literally about to die, dont do it.
Not surfing cured my back issues. DM me I’ll show you how
physical therapists hate him!
For me the discs between L5-S1, L4- L5 and L2-L3 didn’t require surgery until I was in my late 30s so 25 years ago. I’ve avoided the surgery while surfing when I’m not limited by the regular bulging disc issues. Surgery offers a 50/50 success rate so I’ll deal with the daily limitations and periodic forced down time on the couch
if you’ve got back pain, here’s what you need to do:
put two two tennis balls (must be Wilson brand) in the freezer after pouring holy water over them by the light of a full moon. in the morning, draw a circle on the ground with a square and triangle inside the circle such that their points are barely touching the circumference’s inner boundary (do NOT exceeed the circle’s outer boundary or you might summon a rather unpleasant inter-dimensional hobgoblin).
put the tennis balls in the direct center of the circle. walk around it clockwise 12 times, and then hop on one leg around it 7 times counterclockwise. return the tennis balls to the freezer and wait for the next full moon.
on the next full moon, remove both tennis balls from the freezer, and place one directly in the center of your back, and one directly over your sphincter. go to sleep, and in the morning, eat three gummies and drink three beers within a 20 minute timeframe—your back pain will be cured.
THANKS! This sounds plausible save for the holy water. Due to 4 decades as a practicing atheist I’m concerned that the mere thought of holy water, the blood of Christ( X an occasional old world red) or anything mystical associated with western religion might cause me to burst into flames. Also, since I only possess ancient Penn tennis balls in my ball hopper next to my dusty stringer, can I use lacrosse balls in place of Wilson tennis balls?
Had two L5/S1 microdisctectomies back in 2012 unrelated to surfing. Was the most painful experience I’ve ever had and only got back in the water 8 months later. I wouldn’t wish that kind of pain on most people, but Amy Schumer is annoying enough be among the persons I would wish it on.
So you landed on the side of the surgery curve labeled success. How are your pain levels these days and did the sciatic nerve issues subside?
comes and goes, but nothing too bad. I do a lot of core work (Foundation training worked well for me), and CBD topical cream has been a godsend for any flare ups that happen from time to time—what used to take weeks to subside now is usually just a few days.
Sounds like my experience over the last few decades as my back is better now than it was in 30s or 40s. Improved cores strength has been a huge benefit along with hip flexor stretches, on all fours rocking and the usual on your back stretches.
Without reading the entire report it’s a tough game for the unwary. Lots of horror stories out there in the unforgiving ocean.
At least she doesn’t have to worry about them removing her funny bone.
give this homie a dad joke badge!!!
A real rib tickler of an injury
