Bombshell: Convicted Pedophile Surf Coach Connor Lyons Released as Early as June 2026

Connor Lyons is one of those rare birds, a pedophile who doesn’t hide behind a defence of mental illness or abuse or a claim of innocence.

The children’s surf coach and WSL surfer, twenty-seven, who was charged with multiple sex crimes against kids and who subsequently pleaded guilty today got himself five years at the top, a helluva lot less than the potential twenty and, y’would’ve thought, the more likely five-to-ten.

All up, Lyons carried thirty-three charges linked to the eight child victims, the crimes happening between 2022 and 2024, with the heaviest charge carrying a possible 20-year sentence.

Crown prozzy Rebecca Marks told the court the offences happened during the kids’ surf lessons, a family holiday and on a camping trip. Connor Lyons told detectives that his intent was to gauge their interest and to normalise the behaviour for them.

The victim impact statements are pretty rough.

“One victim impact statement makes reference to how he [Lyons] had made him feel … and the innocence of not understanding what the defendant was doing to him and how it has broken something inside him,” Marks told the court. “It makes references to that child suffering nightmares and waking up scared shaking and crying.”

In court Connor Lyons apologised to his victims.

“I understand the effect of my crimes and the effects it has had on the victims’ families and wider community — I take full responsibility for what my actions have caused,” he said.

“I accept the court will order that I complete the appropriate courses to further help my release into the community and be a valuable member of the community.”

The judge said it was Connor Lyons’ cooperation with police that toned down his possible sentence.

“As you must know your crimes are serious and as a community we will not tolerate those who predate on children for the purpose of sexual pleasure,” Judge Cash said.

“It is especially egregious in this case that there is families that trusted you with their children and you betrayed that trust by the abuse which we have heard described.”

And that five years he got?

He only has to serve one third of it or 17 months. With time served, Connor Lyons could back on the beach as early as June 2026.
