Lyons also acknowledged committing offenses against children during a trip to China.
The popular surf coach and WSL surfer Connor Lyons, who was charged with multiple sex crimes against kids in December, has been hit with further charges after at least eight boys came forward, with Lyons telling court the court the allegations are “all true.”
Connor Lyons appeared in court via video link where he was hit with four more charges of indecent treatment of kids under twelve.
Lyons, who is representing himself after benching his lawyer, was offered an adjournment to examine the charges but told the court, “I’m all good thanks, all the charges on there are true.”
Court documents submitted during his second bail hearing detailed claims arising from an inquiry by the Noosa Child Protection Investigation Unit. Authorities allegedly discovered a laptop equipped with a secure file-sharing application, and its internet browsing records reportedly showed searches related to child exploitation content.
According to police, Lyons recorded his own illicit activities and saved the files on an external hard drive. Examination of his laptop allegedly revealed connections to child exploitation materials, including a video depicting a nude child changing. Lyons reportedly confessed to regularly accessing such content since his teenage years, with his most recent activity occurring in December 2024.
He is said to have admitted to erasing the recordings after his initial release on bail. Documents opposing his bail noted that Lyons allegedly told investigators he used the material and videos for sexual gratification and that he would “get off” to the kiddie porn.
Further analysis of his laptop allegedly pointed to child exploitation literature, and police claim Lyons also acknowledged committing offenses against children during a trip to China. He reportedly admitted to exposing himself to minors on several occasions, explaining to detectives that his intent was to gauge their interest and to normalize the behaviour for them.
When questioned about whether he viewed his actions as grooming, he allegedly affirmed, “yes.”
Lyons, a former surf school operator with over 9,000 Instagram followers before his account was deactivated, has not yet formally submitted pleas. However, he has expressed his intent to plead guilty to all but the four most recent charges, pending a review of the prosecution’s evidence.
The case has been postponed until May 12.
Lyons now carries thirty-three charges linked to four alleged child victims, with the heaviest charge carrying a possible 20-year sentence.
