Well anyhow… here we are near the end of the year, the time when “best of 2025” lists begin popping, ranking and regulating music, restaurants, fashion and film. Over on Pitchfork, for example, The Replacements album Let It Be (Deluxe Edition) is up for remaster of the year and do you have a strong opinion Minneapolis quartet?
I didn’t, really, until hearing Paul Westerberg’s Waiting for Somebody on the 1992 movie Singles. That film, an attempt to portray the Pacific Northwest grunge scene, was decidedly unchill though the soundtrack really popped, Westerberg’s tune being a personal favorite.
Westerberg, in any case, led me into The Replacements where I enjoyed a brief, though unmemorable now that I think about it, dalliance.
While on the subject of film and music, the surf world was recently rocked after it was announced Tension 11 was the best surf film of 2025.

I was entirely unaware of the Tension franchise until sitting down across from David Lee Scales for our weekly chat. The best part of the show is generally calls from listeners and on Thursday, a brave soul did not disappoint. There, he shared that he, a surfer, had just watched Tension 11 and had to place it above The Endless Summer on the list of best surf movies ever made.
