In what has become a genre for southern Californian drone pilots, a teenager with a bird has filmed the wild ol moment a Great White shark stalks a kid on a bodyboard only to veer away at the last second.
Great White Drone is an Instagram and YouTube account run by a teen who’s been filming the Great White, which has exploded in numbers in southern California, for the past five years. This clip below is, uh, four years old. Yeah, real new, but no less exciting for its agedness.
GREAT WHITE STALKS KID
Kid on a booger is paddling, kicking his heart out, when the Great White, an eight-footer maybe, juvie, gets on his tail, maybe a foot or so away, before splitting.
“This is one of the most viral great white shark encounters of all time on YouTube with over 15 million views on my channel GreatWhiteDronE, and for good reason. This was definitely an encounter where I got very nervous watching from the controller! Luckily all turned out fine.”
Below the line, the drone filmer, who was a mile away catching the footage, got plenty of heat for not warning the booger pilot.

Once again it shows that in clear water when they can see us very clearly they don’t indiscriminately attack humans as we aren’t on their to eat list.

it wasn’t feeding time. Can’t tell me that because I carried my brother out of the water after an attack. Every creature has a different brain. Never know what one is thinking.
The kid answers his critiques in a sweet lil voiceover in the YouTube clip.
“A lot of people in the comments were telling me I was wrong not to warn the child. I chose not to put the warning beeping on the drone because it might scare the person off their board and that would be more of a dangerous situation.
“The shark swims parallel to the child then turns towards to child. I’m not n nervous yet. I was a bit nervous when the shark got a foot or two away from this child but it was still not acting aggressive. This is a juvenile Great White shark and juvenile means youngh and like any young person or animal, this shark is very curious to its surroundings and it just wanted to check this kid out.
Notice here that when the shark turns away from the child it realises that that child is not food or a fish or a ray. It is just a human swimming and enjoying the waves. And the shark just wanted to play with the surfers right after this and you can this here.

What will BG do if shark nets and culls go forward in Oz and there aren’t as many shark bite stories to copy and paste from?

Good piece in the NYT today about nets in Australia. The bottom line is exactly the same here in Durban as it is in Sydney and that there is no conclusive proof that they work effectively to prevent bites. And surprise surprise that the ongoing use of nets is motivated primarily politicians trying to avoid blame instead of tackling the issue based on scientific facts.
Respectfully, strongly disagree.

I would love to get one of these shark rooters to meet me for an early morning splash at our local slab ay. Creek entrance nearby, massive dorsal fins spotted on the reg and the fishos look at you like you’re fucking mental for even considering paddling out.
Get out there and you are sat way beyond where the waves at the beachie are breaking and there can be big lulls between sets so no chance of quickly catching one in if anything bad is heading in your direction.
All these cunts who say its your choice, its just nature and fucking blah, blah blah can get fucked and I bet if they were there facing that paddle most of those fuckwits would suddenly develop a sore shoulder or forgotten their fins and not even head out hahaha
4.5′ vs 15′ shark… it’s not surprising the juvenile White didn’t want to take on something its own size(boogie + grom) and especially if prey is showing no fear.
