The video angles are out, now, and it is crystal clear that the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, murdered another citizen on the streets of Minneapolis in cold blood. Early reports, from the Trump administration, attempted to paint a picture of a deranged man hell bent on killing ICE agents because he had a 9mm gun and two magazines.
Alex Pretti, 37, was protesting Operation Metro Surge in those Twin Cities wherein thousands of ICE agents have descended with the intent of arresting and deporting criminals, line cooks and preschool children. He was shot 10 times in the back with hands on the ground after his pistol had been removed, by officers, from his waistband.
Kristi Noem, secretary of Homeland Security, immediately labeled Pretti a “domestic terrorist,” declaring, “When you perpetuate violence against a government because of ideological reasons and for reasons to resist and perpetuate violence, that is the definition of domestic terrorism. This individual who came with weapons and ammunition to stop a law enforcement operation of federal law enforcement officers committed an act of domestic terrorism. That’s the facts.”
Kash Patel, director of the FBI, opined, “You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It’s that simple.”
Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff, called him “an assassin.”
Well, as the video shows, Pretti never brandished his gun, which he had a permit to carry, and now gun rights’ activists have been twisted into Kafkaesque knots.
The 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” has long been a shibboleth of the right. Any impingement upon met with real rage.
Completely wild, then, to watch its abandonment in order to serve a federal government narrative.
There is no sense in it, not one drip, and Pretti’s killing should force a reckoning.

So as it often happens with these situations, we get a little more info after a week passes. The additional video of Pretti a week before his death provides better context for how he was interacting with law enforcement.
Doesn’t mean he deserved to die, but his behavior was unhinged, threatening, and violent. People shouldn’t be able to get away with that kind of stuff, no matter your disagreement with the government agency.
If local police cited/arrested more protestors for breaking the law, you wouldn’t have emboldened activists who think they can do anything they want. Same thing happened in 2020 with the Floyd riots.
All that said, the incident on the day of his death can still be a “bad shoot” from a law enforcement perspective.
