That ol maxim, if you surf good, people want to hang out with you, has been reprised on the excellent surf podcast, The Late Afternoon Glass-Off, to explain how a couple of Indonesian surf rats came to be guests of Dana White on his super yacht in Fiji.
Dana White is the almost sixty-year-old CEO of the UFC. Over the course of the last quarter century, Dana White has turned the struggling fight company into a global multi-billion dollar icon. The rise of the UFC has coincided, naturally, with his own worth, which is estimated at north of six hundred mill US.
Dana White has two surfer sons, Dana Jr and Adian, and on a recent family cruise on the 377-foot super yacht MY Ahpo, which rents for three mill a week, they were joined for a tour of the Mamanuca chain by Indonesian super talents Varun Tandjung, son of Slater peer Rizal, and Bronson Meydi, a kid widely slated to be the best in that archipelago.
Also, swinging in, was the Californian pro Jett Schilling, a world junior champ.
Obvs, they had a hell of a time, burning cigars with Dana White, surfing with the kids, and giving hell to the Apho’s jetskis.
A dozen years back I got a taste of the superyacht biz when a millionaire couldn’t make his Ments trip on the Ratu Motu and got to steal his bunk for five gees. It was a fading remnant of old world decadence, white protestant, old guard, all of us in our ice-cream suits sipping bourbon toddies on the bunny deck.

Was at a surf comp yesterday so just a quick eye over them today. Summer. Lol. Snow yesterday in the bottom half and 4.5m swell for the contest. Offftttt
