Surf legend Mick Fanning Joins Sports Elite in Push for Royal Commission Over Islamist Bondi Attack

"This is bigger than politics. It is about the character of our country and the Australia we want future generations to inherit."

The triple-world surfing champion Mick Fanning has joined a conga-line of Australian sports stars demanding a royal commission into governmental failures surrounding the massacre of Jews by Islamists terrorists at a Hanukkah Festival at Bondi Beach. 

Exactly three weeks ago, two Islamic terrorists, Sajid Akram and his boy Naveed Abram, stormed the Jewish festival being held in a little park adjacent to a children’s playground at the north end of Bondi Beach, killing, mostly, old women and men but also the ten-year-old daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who’d come to a Australia to get away from ancient European and Asian hatreds and had named their kid Matilda because it was the most Australian name they could think of.

The pain ain’t over, either, as catastrophic wounds will haunt those survivors who were riddled with bullets for a lifetime. 

When your ol pal DR strolled on the scene I saw an old woman, dead in her blood-soaked finery, sprawled across a picnic bench. There were Jewish families cowing with their babies against the beach wall. A male cop openly wept. A bald man sat dazed, his head entirely covered in blood. Parents ran through the scenes of hell screaming for their children as paramedics and lifeguards worked on lifeless bodies. Empty bullet casings on the ground were a reminder that two men had deliberately slaughtered unarmed innocents at an Australian beach ostensibly on the charge of Zionism. 

The Australian government, led by a prime minister that has never shied away from his distaste for Israel, predictably, threw out the usual platitudes, “hate doesn’t have a place in Australia”, “love will triumph over hate” and so on, but y’don’t need to be Alby Einstein to know that platitudes are what got us here in the first place.

Ironically, a few days after the attack, a  government-funded ad appeared calling for the end of Islamophobia. Go figure, as they used to say. 

FANNING CALLS FOR ROYAL COMMISSION INTO BONDI MASSARE

Calls for a Royal Commission — an independent public inquiry reserved for grave national scandals and systemic failures — were shot down by a government obviously afraid that its failure to tackle rising attacks on Jewish businesses and schools, for fear of losing support in crucial Muslim electorates, would be laid painfully bare.

Now, more than 60 prominent Australian athletes, including Mick Fanning and other Olympians, have signed an open letter urging Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to launch a federal royal commission into rising antisemitism, radicalisation, and the deadly Bondi Beach terror attack.

The strongly worded statement, released recently, expresses deep sympathy for the families of the 15 victims Targeted by Daddy Akram and his kid Naveed.

The signatories, spanning swimming, tennis, AFL, surfing and other sports, declare that the tragedy marks a national crisis requiring decisive leadership. They argue the attack followed years of growing extremism, intimidation, and unchecked radicalisation, shaking Australia’s safety and social fabric.

“This is not the Australia we represented,” the letter states, calling on the government to establish a Commonwealth royal commission to examine these issues thoroughly. “This is bigger than politics. It is about the character of our country and the Australia we want future generations to inherit.”

Real nice to see Mick Fanning in there.

Don’t have to rehash the ol story from 2009 but a re-read of part of Chas’ rebuttal to Mick makes for interesting reading, I think. 

“Frankly, I have a strong and personal attachment to the Jewish community. I have traveled through Israel while studying in the Middle East and witnessed firsthand both the strength and tenacity of the Jewish people. I have been everywhere from Eilat to Kiryat Shmona. I have seen the daily hardships that arise from being a persecuted minority. I was, in fact, in Jerusalem when a suicide bomber detonated himself on an Egged bus, killing all aboard. The senselessness of this act, the sadness, I will carry forever. I did not re-print Mick Fanning’s words to incite and anger, or to heap an unnecessary amount of vitriol on an extremely tender issue. But I could also not ignore what he said.“
