Craig Anderson is still unlike anything we’ve seen before or since, a nice-looking person in butch poses, and with a terrific eye for real estate.
The Newcastle surfer Craig Anderson is the co-founder of clothing brand Former, formerly Destroyer, which you wear when you want to be butch enough for the beach, smart enough for school but glam enough for the club.
Craig Anderson, who turns thirty-eight this year, is one of the the most alluring and memorable characters in surf of the last twenty-five years. I once watched a Jew supplicate himself before Craig at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem; the day before at the Jaffa Gate, American girls had swooned as Craig roared past on a Segway, your reporter in the hottest pursuit!
For many years, at least until his marriage to an ambitious lawyer, Eloise, Craig lived in a multi-level beachfront-ish home in Merewether, a suburb of Newcastle, with his three friends Lewie Dunne, Teale Vanner and Madeline Rae.
Lewie and Teale were pro-level surfers, although not on the million-dollars-a-year tier Craig used to occupy when he applied stickers of mountains to his boards, while Madeleine was a pedagogue for little children.
Lewie had a dungeon decorated with plastic palm trees while Craig ha the penthouse and the remaining couple nested in the middle somewhere.
You can examine that epoch below.
Now, Craig, who has long waved the digitus medius at pro surfing, has listed the house, which he bought for 770k back in 2013, with hopes of over two million Australian dollars.
The surfer turned US Olympic team coach turned realtor Mitchell Ross is the listing agent.
He writes,
Positioned on a 508sqm corner parcel within one of Merewether’s most tightly held pockets, this updated family home combines flexible living, elevated outlooks and future flexibility (STCA).

Designed to accommodate growing families, the home features multiple living zones, updated bathrooms and open-plan living and dining flowing onto a large entertaining deck capturing sweeping district views. The privately positioned upper-level retreat with walk-in robe offers an ideal space for teenagers, guests or working from home, while downstairs a self-contained area with separate access provides further versatility for extended family or additional accommodation.
Additional features include a solar system, gas cooking, gas hot water, gas outlets for heating and BBQ connection, split system air conditioning, double garaging and workshop space. Recent updates include internal painting and the addition of louvre windows within the loft retreat.
This is a rare opportunity within a highly sought-after coastal setting, moments from Merewether Beach, quality schools, village shops, transport and Merewether Golf Club.

Best we’ve had in ages
Can’t be colder than NorCal, can it?
Fuck the comp recap mate, give us a live chat recap
He’s used to it. San Fran
……Shudder
So, if you can’t write a decent recap…..get off your useless lazy Strayan ass, scroll the live chat and tell us what was the best sheep shagging joke and posted by whom?
don’t know what you all are smoking down there but 2 mil for a rather ordinary house over a km from the beach? I did a street view of the property. not even a nice looking neighborhood.
It’s a Ponzi party! Everyone invited!
Literally everyone. Doesn’t matter if you’re from Outer Mongolia and can’t place Australia on a map, the Oz government is ecstatic to see your speculative investment dollar competing with Aussies for the basic essentials of human life.
Yeeewwwww!
Exactly this
That particular neighbourhood is fine enough but there’s a really sketchy housing commission area about 2 mins walk away.
This flog pulls into it at one point to show off to his mates before driving away.
Car was stolen from house a few seconds before the footage starts. Good tour of Newy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJfvRNLb_mU
Oops sorry. This is an edited sort version. I’ll try to find the full length vid.
This is the one. Essential viewing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8nQc_1B7P4
but my WSL daily update subject said:
Historic Opening Day at Raglan’s Manu Bay
….and then goes on to describe how absolutely incredible the first day at the WSL Corona Cero New Zealand Pro presented by Bonsoy.
you are sure you were watching the same event?
I remember after Scomo gave me all that Covid money and the next year the taxman came calling……..fuck.
Anyway, phoned ’em up and they put me on a decent payment plan- good blokes.
Bought my first block of land by figuring out I could get a cheaper loan off the tax office than the banks. Spend my tax bill on the land and plead povo to the taxman and you can get the best loan repayment plan in Australia.
Contest off today?
Had an amazing surf in one hour. Right pair of fins finally made an older shortboard I had written off light up. Love a north swell and shorter period.
Birds nest soup.
I suspect more dudes than women are into Craig. He’s what, 5’7″ 135 pounds?
Is New Zealand still relatively inexpensive? I’m running out of places to fantasize about moving to.
Im shifting to a region where you still buy a house for $250,000 NZD.
Christchurch post quake is really starting to hum and offers a great lifestyle. Median house prices about 750k.
750k NZD? Sold.
Yip. And that would be a 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute drive to the city centre or the bottom of the mountain bike park.
I could sell my California house, buy a house there, and have live on the difference for a few years. Sounds like a plan.
Flick me a email one day. [email protected]
fuk that- cold and earthquake prone.
can get a house 15min back from the beach here for 800K- no floods, no bushfire, no quakes, no tsunami risk. Red soil, reliable rainfall, grow anything.
probably cheaper down near Blowin
Yeah, but it’s Australia.
More your style? Pocket the other 400k too. Top of the Country and one of the better waves in the Country on the doorstep.

No bushfire? No floods? No tsunami risk? No quakes?
Sounds dreamy. However a massive and all too real threat here. I don’t fret about quakes and tsunami but it’s all happened before.
Steve had a good analysis of the actually decent waves and performances. Most of us were probably pretty stoked on those conditions compared to the negative talk leading up to it.
Maybe you should stick to whatever it is you do for money.
His visit to the tax man as stated above, indicates he should be spending less time here and more time working smarter.
These were actually cool flatmates
mine were coked up germans, andrew tate loving aussies and the stinkiest pair of feet married to another seppo who was the most encyclopedic brain I’ve ever had the fortune of meeting, austism included (I think).
Could barely have an uncle Doug.
Xox
Try renaming your self gratification. The image of Uncle Doug being pulled off live on national television by Kerry Packer may be a bridge too far.
Hot for some!
Xox
Just be happy you didn’t endure a long hospital stay with a catheter shoved up inside of you.
You good?
Absolutely! I had one in for 8 days a few years ago and the beautiful moment when the nurse yanked it out ranks right up there with child birth and other special life events.
What mine were no good?
Keep trying I guess.
Those sheep jokes were all time. I hope they haven’t gone all in day 1. Those were finals material.
Sure there will be more grazing.
They never should have tried to cram round 2 through in deteriorating conditions.
Al and Jordy got the short end of the stick.
Well wrapped , boring as boring gets.
