The Inertia achieved a major milestone, late last week, by reaching peak audacity. Former Surfer Magazine editor Zach Weisberg, casting his sensitive eyes over the space back in 2010, decided to “build a platform that celebrates the rich diversity of perspectives in surf and outdoor culture.”
Build he did, celebrating the rich diversity of changing ponchos, rinse kits, surf hats and waterproof adult diapers along the way.
Weisberg left The Inertia, a year or such ago, and now that daddy’s away, the staff has adopted a snarky tone, castigating surfers for their “head-scratching” product endorsement in a blistering new op-ed.
Here Are 5 Head-Scratching, Surfer-Endorsed Products begins by eviscerating Kelly Slater over his Purps energy drink before pivoting to a shaming of Mick Fanning and his bottle opening sandal. Next in the crosshairs, Kelly Slater, again, for his Rythmia hydrocolonic and ayahuasca retreat down in Costa Rica. Laird Hamilton and his Superfood coffee creamer did not escape scorn nor did Bethany Hamilton and her Sharkbanz.
Savage.
But I suppose in line with the times? Sixteen years ago, celebrating “rich diversity” was, well, celebrated. Today, of course, it catches a likely lawsuit from the U.S. Justice Department.

When the Inertia sold, Wiesberg grabbed the money, (the only thing he really cared about), and split.
Leaving the Inertia to the rest of the low-life bottom-feeders who are stuck there, (as they have no other marketable job skills aside from printing propaganda, untruths and hawking just about any totally useless somewhat surf-related piece of junk to their Val, kook, and beginner-surfer readers.
(And that’s being polite about it).

and please don’t tarnish Surfer mag’s name (who did have its place and day in the sun for a time), by linking Weisberg’s name to it in any way.

very contestable wave, but seems to have an impossible end section…are they surfing in the right spot?
there’s no end section as such. what is going on is that there is sand in funny places and a hole. it has broken the wave in 2-3 sections. there are rights coming across. someone went a right yesterday. some waves roll through in a typical ‘Manu’ way, right through, others are super sectionny.

The judges won’t be the ones deciding that, that bar will be set by the surfers.

Judges will decide what is the standard- that’s what they do.
I’ll get the head judges text to the competitors to you {if I get it, have asked a mole}. My point is it’ll just be a reshuffle of the generic criteria wording. Ultimately the surfing done in the first rounds will set the judging tone for the rest of the event. This judges discuss what the scoring criteria will be goes out the window when the surfers go beyond those words. It’s geared not to hinder or restrict the surfing.
yeah, he was fuckin hauling on a few. he treats every wave the same it felt, just get up as much speed as possible and hope there’s a section at the end. the natural footers were packing in the hits , in comparison.

Always hated the drift in turns Hip, love the clean carve.
But now realising, if you go vert backhand and give that tail some curry through the turn, the drift through the vertical arc feels pretty damn sweet on an OH point wave at max speed on a steep section.
swallowtail quad, single to double, pivot quads, 70/30 foiled rears.
And seasoning the steak and letting it come to room temperature has vastly improved my steak cooking game.
Why does it take so long to learn these simple, life affirming things?
