Great White Forces Bondi Closure for Third Day Straight as Australians Adjust to New Reality

Still, "there's not enough of them," says NSW government minister.

A few years back I posited that, given the known knowns, protection of Great Whites, little stomach for the icing of feisty Whites, there would come a day when your local would regularly shut its doors so the sacred fish might frolic unimpeded.

Two weeks after Leah Stewart was hit by a Great White thirty yards off Coogee Beach, and between the safe swimming flags, pulled from the White’s jaws by a lifesaver doin’ board paddle training, nine months after surfer Mercury Psillakis was killed by a Great White shark surfing his local there just north of Dee Why Point, on a pretty spring Saturday afternoon, the eve of Father’s Day, and four years on since Simon Neillist was eaten alive by a Great White in front of a bank of phone cameras at Malabar, the new epoch is here.

For the third consecutive day, Bondi Beach, the most famous stretch of sand in the country, lately, as the sight where dozens of Jews were gunned down, a Great White has forced swimmers and surfers out of the water.

All drone footage from surfer-builder turned checkin’ the ocean each day drone guy Jason Iggleden.

Day one:

Day two:

Today:

One week ago, the state minister for agriculture, Tara Moriarty, pointed out there wasn’t “enough of them”, Great Whites that is.

I may be alone, maybe not, but I’m thrilled by this closure, it creating the bulletproof excuse for not dealing with the myriad horrors that strike the man or gal brave enough to surf Bondi.

But, still, pretty rough if the next hit is a couple of kids doin’ nippers or a mammy with bebe in the shallows etc.

After 30 years of watching horror movies and shark movies I can’t believe I was stupid enough as a teenager to go midnight swimming about 200 metres out in the water at Ocean Grove beach..

Skol

does that bulldog have a camel toe?

Trev

How good. With Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine on guitar. Saw an interview with Tom where he said he had to learn 200 songs to go on tour with Bruce because he changes the set list every night.
I’ve seen Bruce three times. They are the best concerts I’ve been too. 3 hours plus every show. No one works harder than Bruce and the E Street band.

Barnycle

Damn straight. The greatest band ever, pearl jam, were fully inspired by Bruce and his concerts. PJ used to do 3 hour sets, as well, but they had to cut that down when they got a bit older and their drummer couldn’t do that anymore.

Barnycle

That’s proper rock n roll, Twills. Thanks for the link.

Blowin

It’s a British bulldog.

And the sycophancy is fucking horrible. Get some dignity.

SC says it’s not him, but if SC were to make a parallel account sucking himself off it would look exactly like this.

You are Australian and Australians don’t act like this. Get an act.

Strayan Cunt

Mate it ain’t me, why the fuck would I do it? It’s properly wigging me out. PP is a seppo, look at the time zone he posts from

Brutus

FFS , SC if ya put ya self out there in public…..everyone can have a crack at ay……blowie claims it’s unAustralian…….SC ever heard of Tall Poppy syndrome…..Australia very good at it……take it as a compliment….you sir are now a tall poppie…yewww

Welcome to the club!

Strayan Cunt

Hahaha mate I love people taking the piss if that’s what this is but it’s pretty fucked it’s nonstop and ruins the thread. Maybe we need a mod haha

Blowin

You’re having a crack at me.

Does that make me a tall poppy? Should I take it as a compliment?

Brutus

having a crack at someone….nah…..I just keep pointing out your shortcomings….and correct some of your unsubstantiated comments…LOL!

Blowin

He certainly doesn’t sound American to me.

Brutus

there you go again…..Australians don’t act like this……..WTF……..I know you claim your ethnic back ground is aboriginal/Australian….so how would a New Australian like you act….?

Blowin

You of all people want to get nitty gritty about personal identity and ethnicity?

Quit whilst you’re ahead, Champ.

I don’t want to be rude to you despite your attempts to antagonise. Give it away. You think your lack of anonymity is a burden. I’ll tell you straight up that it’s what prevents me from saying things how I truly see them.

longtomssecondcuztwiceremoved

tbh- I’m giving Penrith Pool the benefit of the doubt in terms of playing a high level pisstaking trolling game here.

If I’m wrong, it’s at least making his posts more fun to read.

Strayan Cunt

Could it be Negs?

Blowin

If it’s trolling it’s coming from SC himself.

That would be very unfun. However I’m giving SC the benefit of the doubt.

Gwen Walz’s Eyes

That swell is a week after waiting period ends. What’s your point?

Tom House

I guess one solution would be to kill a whole bunch of living, sentient animals so that people can splash around in the water occasionally.

Barnycle

Correct. Now you’re getting it. Kill the murderous, psycho sharks. They’ll bounce back in a few years and have the ocean all to themselves when humans are fighting the Water Wars and are no longer surfing.

Also, the less-psycho shark species apparently, according to the scientists, just fill the role that the Whites play. No loss to the ecosystem.

The Whiteys all left Durban and things are fine in the ocean over there. Glad to see that you came around on the topic.

Tom House

Interestingly, doing things like killing animals and altering ecosystems literally just for fun is the same impulse that causes us — industrialized capitalist societies — to outstrip our resources and is why we will be engaged in water wars in the first place.

Fartblossom

Yes, that’s correct. That’s what we do because we are top dog on planet earth. Whether it’s for food or recreational purposes the death of living creatures is often required so humans can live happily. Imagine how many living creatures were killed in the construction of your shelter alone?

Tom House

This is probably the stupidest possible response

PacificNorthPest

I’m not sure what’s wrong with me, can’t seem to find the will to make simpish tribute cartoons to men I don’t know online? 🙂

maybe you’re a kid, if you’re under 30, I’m sorry for teasing you about this

PacificNorthPest

That must be nice, go kick around Sao Paulo or something

Barnycle

I’m fairly sure that the food isn’t luxury. It just looks and tastes good. You can’t feed professional athletes who make $250,000K a year boiled chicken, white rice and broccoli 4 days in a row, 10 events every year. With bad catering the athletes, and their families would be grumpy. Bad idea. Scratch that one off of your list.

Barnycle

It’s the internet, buddy. People will have opinions. Either just ignore them or return the hostility back to the person.

But don’t ask them what’s wrong with them. If you asked me to explain why I’m a cunt it would take a short book.

All that being said, it would be nice if Disqus had private messaging so that we could suck each others dicks in side rooms instead of just out here for everybody to see. My grandpa would be appalled to see this level of sloppery out in public.

Barnycle

“In 2025, the World Surf League (WSL) offered a total of $11,185,860 in prize money across the Championship Tour, split between men and women competitors. This included payouts for 11 regular-season events plus the WSL Finals at Cloudbreak in Fiji.”

Each winner, male and female, get a $200,000 prize for Winning the tour and $100,000 for second. $75K and then $60K going down.

Does anybody think that part of the solution to making the tour more budget-friendly is to reduce the prize money …again?

Or is $11.2 million a drop in the bucket for how much it costs to produce the whole thing?

The biggest issue would be that certain surfers like Gabe or Jordy might just come off tour to be free surfers and make their money off tour.

I know we all have ways to make the tour cheaper, such as not flying the judges to the contests, but is prize money part of the problem, or not?

@TheRealJackMeoff

Maybe read my below the line piece on nihilism.
In it my main point was trying to analyze these things is pointless unless you are top brass in the Wozzle or planning a tour of your own. I am sure those decision makers have analyzed this to the moon and do what they do purely out of self interest.
They clearly don’t care, and caring about it when they don’t is an exercise in frustration and futility.
I understand it is human nature to want to improve things, but truth be told the faster these guys crumble the better.
Much like a healthy forest, things must occasionally burn down in order to clear the old growth for new seedlings.

deeks

” we want the money lebowsky . Or we’ll cut off your Johnson. The money lebowsky!

PacificNorthPest

Bruh just get it over with and suck his dick

PacificNorthPest

My agent is the daughter of a builder and sees more construction stuff in a house than a home inspector. Once you pool enough scratch to start buying houses I’ll send her around 😉

BograilCutback

A unicorn combo.

Though not that hard to do. You don’t even need to be able to read to know what to look for. Just… like try and understand and you can. Most agents don’t even do that.

PacificNorthPest

Re WSL, these last two contests must be a drag for surfers who’ve advance a few times. So many days of bad surf waiting around for the last day of the contest period. And it’s not like they can leave the venue and go explore for a few days; have to be there every morning for the call. Meanwhile everyone else got to go home and recharge, or the next venue to warm up and be traveling there on their own terms, or chases swell or whatever.

Better than kick in the teeth for sure, but I bet they do a lot of looking at the inside of a hotel room for day after day

Sellme fitzgobbins

I’ll take the pointers over the van lyfers , anything that stops people surfing is a good thing

“For the past 100 years, consumers have powered the US economy, their $21tn in annual spending supported by the business ethos that the “customer is king”. Today, that idea is as outdated as a Norman Rockwell painting, say consumer activists, historians, analysts, executives and customers themselves.”

“It’s not because they’re evil, it’s because you can’t go anywhere else to buy your water.”

”A feeling of forever being ripped off helps explain why consumers have never felt more pessimistic, even though the economy, by the numbers, continues to perform well.”

Rich Marx

This article really buried the lead because the problem is algorithmic pricing that driven by centralized data brokers that gives businesses the ability to use monopoly practices and price fixing.

Rent, hotels, airlines, all of it. Both parties are in on it too.

Barnycle

But it started before the algorithms got sophisticated. It started when they stopped preventing monopolies and when they allowed the investment banks to control both parties. The Dems were out of power for 12 years (1980-1992). When they came back into power it was Goldman Sachs who became the president.

BograilCutback

This really cements a lot of what I was feeling yesterday.

Not the party specifics but the general trend towards lower and lower quality services and goods. The perception is that things are getting worse, and even if things are better right now than they were 100 years ago (of course they are in many respects materially), culturally things are not going so hot. If the sense in society is that things are getting worse, and our pocket computers are helping to super charge these sentiments despite a non centralized (supposedly) dissemination of information, what will this lead to?

What would an Edward Hopper painting look like today? And I am not keen on using Ai to make this image lol.

Rich Marx

The amount of information they are able to get and the targeting they can do is entirely unprecedented.

When you go to an airlines website and search for a flight they already know how much you make, how you spend and save your money, etc. It’s illegal for airlines to price discriminate at an individual level, but your local private equity owned plumbing contractor or whatever home services that shows up with a wrap and an iPad can easily get away with it. And they do.

You’re at the grocery store and your GF enters in her rewards number to get the buy one get one free deal but you use your debit card…that fact is recorded and sold. They will also make predictions about you and your relationship with that person based on what you’re buying.

I have a nuclear family member who did this in the early to mid 2010s. I’m talking about practices that are over 10 years old.

BograilCutback

This!

longtomssecondcuztwiceremoved

3 grand for a Louis vitton shirt, wonder how much for the yellow cardy.

do people actually buy that shitt ?

Barnycle

Vaughan gave you some glazing on the new Lagos surf podcast. Said that he loves experiencing the comps and then going on to read your write-ups of them after. Just like the rest of us.

As for the high fashion, yes it’s just a weird world for the elite and the people who want to be like them. Clothes, watches and handbags. $100,000 handbag. They have 20 of them. $1.5m watches. They have 4 of them.

As always, they’re mooching off of the “cool factor” of surfing. Since the 50s, I guess (Gidget was 1959).

longtomssecondcuztwiceremoved

thats nice.

Occy's Nostril

When one of these white cunts bites the leg off a travelling hot jewish influencer the cull will begin. Where the bloody hell are ya. Come to Australia but dont go near a beach.
