I really don’t know. In a lot of ways the world is getting smaller and we all are less different, less tribal. To me it always looked like Ireland is one island that reasonably should just be the territory of the Irish Republic and that in the end religion and ethnicity should not make any given person’s life there better or worse.
But at some point killing children with bus bombs has to stop. Right now nobody’s dying over the Troubles, more people than ever are thriving and making a good life for themselves. My opinion of what is the optimal outcome over there is highly flexible to the current not so terrible reality.
As for the indigenous people tribute stuff, I see it as about as hollow as “thank you for your service” from politicians who then don’t take care of veterans and military families. Land acknowledgments etc, doesn’t do fucking shit. But if there is a local ethnic group that wants to do a bit of a ceremony on their historic lands, fine if it makes them feel good.
