Footage went extremely viral, yesterday, of a 16-year-old lifeguard calmly getting pounded in Santa Cruz shorebreak while grasping a young boy. Scott Vander Dussen, there on the beach, captured the daring rescue which showed wave after wave demolishing the two and said, “(The high surf) caught a lot of people off-guard. Unfortunately, this young man was overwhelmed and swept out in just a moment’s time.”
The lifeguard, though, never panicked, calmly taking breaths between dunks and eventually washing far enough up the shore that another lifeguard could assist. Beachgoers also tried to lend a hand but the lifeguard shooed them away.
It was truly a moment and praise immediately poured in from all corners.
President Donald Trump’s middle son Eric joined the chorus, taking to social media to share, “Give this 16-year-old lifeguard the highest civilian honor. This is truly the best of America! Well done!”

we ventured into many high end neighborhoods, malls, restaurants and tourism destinations. truly enjoyed it all….but one thing that really stuck 0ut was the amount of middle eastern people. Newport, Lido, Fashion Island, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, SF City shopping districts were like being in a foreign country with a majority muslim/middle eastern population. Seriously like 75% overall. blew my mind.

In 2020, the week before Covid shut down international borders I met a bunch of Californian lifeguards in Pavones, who I was told were part of the lifeguard crew in Doninical. These kids (early 20s) were fuckin jacked (definitely taking some sort of supplements), surfed all day long through the beating sun and ripped so hard I thought they were professionals.
I couldn’t get over how bloody fit they were, while i was just cruising and getting fitter and fitter everyday I surfed the point. They were a somewhat cool bunch as well, offering me some weed which is how I suspect they made their money, which I think is fairly usual for southern Costa Rica. The only people who surfed as good as them(and better) on that trip, were the locally based pros like Leon Glatzer. I guess the lifeguards surfed a lot, and had likely been doing so their entire lives.
