Four months back, a Seattle man holidaying in Maui was filmed chucking a rock at an endangered monk seal’s head.
He subsequently had the hell beat out him, lickens as they say in Hawaii, with his attacker awarded a “letter of recommendation and recognition” by Hawaii’s Senate Minority Leader, the Republican Brenton Awa.
A victory for humanity and for nature’s gorgeous kingdom. There is no room for wanton animal cruelty, as most of us would agree, although a rock thrown from thirty yards and which, likely, missed its target ain’t as wild as four Hawaiians trying to beat a pig to death on the beach.
Which is what we see, here, in a post on the Hawaii News Report page. Three Hawaiians are filmed giving a pig the last rites in the shallows, using tree branches to send the animal to the gates of oblivion.
Posting for awareness purposes to show this is wrong on so many levels. This is never ok to hurt or beat an animal. We have to do better as humans than this… sad situation that these braddahs thought this was ok. This is not ok!! Disgusting
And what is of terrific interest are the responses that follow and the sharp contrast to the rock thrower who was beaten and charged.

According to some in the comments, the pig had gone rogue at the beach, attacking kids etc, and the boys gave it hell with tree branches ‘cause they didn’t have their knives and guns.
Animal lovers appear here and there but the majority feel that the swine had it coming and, shee-it, it’s just a dumb ol pig.
Feral pig killing isn’t a total legal free-for-all outside designated hunting contexts. Hawaii’s animal cruelty statute technically covers “any animal,” and torturing or beating an animal can trigger charges regardless of species.
But…and it’s a doozy… Hawaii law also carves out explicit allowances for using “appropriate tools” to control feral animals, including pigs, goats, deer, and wild cattle, when they threaten natural resources or, by extension, public safety.
That carve-out is why the branch-beating on the beach drew shrugs instead of charges: legally defensible pest control response to a pig that was reportedly attacking kids, versus the monk seal case, where the animal is a federally protected endangered species making any harm to it a federal crime, not just a state cruelty question.
Do you think, double standard, and anyway who don’t love a righteous and guilt-free pass to beat hell out of someone, particularly if the offender is haole, or, if nuance is studied, a reasonable response to the situation in both cases?

Throw a hook in and catch a few of them too.
Quick and efficient.
And got the pig straight onto a spit to roast it for a community lu’au that night.

A Google/YouTube search has helped me in the past to know whether I need to press the button 3 times or 5 times in order to pair with my phone . Whether to turn off then on, or on then off.
No need to spend the extra money on the Apple ones. The third party ones work well. I use a $30 JIB’s that I first got in the Panama 🇵🇦 airport. Work great ….until they don’t. Then you buy another pair.
Also the cheap ones only pair to one device at a time, so may inadvertently pair to some device, like your laptop, that you didn’t intend and then are no longer free to pair to your phone. So you’ll have to turn off the Bluetooth on all the other devices. Then a lot of trial and error of turning things off and on and following internet instructions. The expensive ones can pair to two devices at once. I’ve never owned one of those.
Some take longer than others to figure out, but eventually we figure them out.
