Holding out for a hero.
A wild summer is only getting wilder. On America’s east coast, hurricane season has been a straight dud with only five named storms and zero ‘canes thus far. If no twirly blower forms up by November 30, it would be the first time in history that it has gone without one.
Meanwhile on the west coast things have gone berserk. South swell after south swell has pounded the Golden State all summer with “surf events” only stacking up. Tropical Storm Marie is slated to push many big waves into the region this coming Labor Day weekend. A joy for hellmen, though grave worry for those living in multi-million dollar beachfront homes and especially in Laguna Beach.
A seawall located near Ocean Avenue, and bravely protecting the rich, has, according to KTLA 5 news, has developed “significant cracking.”
Steve Suer of Laguna Construction and Builder is working on a project nearby and told the outlet that he’s been watching the seawall turn to crap over the last several weeks.
“The sand is washed out completely,” he said, adding that the seawall is cracked in multiple places and “every day gets worse.”
Alex Mars who has lived nearby his entire life and surfs shared, “Never seen anything like this. Ever.”
Nobody knows quite what to do, as there are no seemingly simple engineering solutions, though might the simplest of engineering solutions be being overlooked?
But who could forget the story of brave Hans Brinker. The poor little Dutch boy was walking by a dike, one day, and saw water trickling out. Knowing that a burst would flood the whole city, he selflessly put his finger right in there and saved everyone.
Might a poor young boy, or girl, from Corona (there are no poors in Laguna) be walking by and do the same?
No doubt a statue would be built to honor.
