Protracted sale process eventually yields fruit for surfing's undisputed queen of style…
The Newcastle surfer Craig Anderson, co-founder of clothing brand Former, formerly Destroyer, which you wear when you want to be butch enough for the beach, smart enough for school but glam enough for the club, has proved his real estate cunning with a neat one million dollars pocketed following the sale of his Merewether home
Craig, 38, who has long waved the digitus medius at pro surfing, listed the house, which he bought for 770k back in 2013, earlier in the year with hopes of over two million Australian dollars, finally netting $1.925 in what has become a shitty market for vendors.
(Examine the house in this terrific short by Monster Children filmed back when Craig lived in th multi-level beachfront-ish home with his three friends Lewie Dunne, Teale Vanner and Madeline Rae. Lewie and Teale are pro-level surfers, although not on the million-dollars-a-year tier Craig used to occupy when he applied stickers of mountains to his boards, while Madeleine is a pedagogue for little children. Lewie has a dungeon decorated with plastic palm trees, Craig has the penthouse and the remaining couple nest in the middle somewhere. At one point, Lewis goes through Craig’s clothes, thrilled as he catches a glimpse of himself in Craig’s shiny black leather outfit.)
The surfer turned US Olympic team coach turned realtor Mitchell Ross described the listing thus,
Positioned on a 508sqm corner parcel within one of Merewether’s most tightly held pockets, this updated family home combines flexible living, elevated outlooks and future flexibility (STCA).

Designed to accommodate growing families, the home features multiple living zones, updated bathrooms and open-plan living and dining flowing onto a large entertaining deck capturing sweeping district views. The privately positioned upper-level retreat with walk-in robe offers an ideal space for teenagers, guests or working from home, while downstairs a self-contained area with separate access provides further versatility for extended family or additional accommodation.
Additional features include a solar system, gas cooking, gas hot water, gas outlets for heating and BBQ connection, split system air conditioning, double garaging and workshop space. Recent updates include internal painting and the addition of louvre windows within the loft retreat.
Rossy said the sale process was as little protracted, given conditions not surprising, but he and Craig toughed it out to at least get close to two-mill.
“It was quite a long campaign, and we had offers early on that were a little bit lower but we wanted to wait to find a buyer in the price range,” Rossy told local press.
South African-born Craig, legal eagle wife Eloise and infant bebe, not named Dez sadly, have moved closer to the beach, to gorgeous Curry St, a dazzling boulevard leads all the way down to Merewether beach’s pretty sands.

Also, is that really what is referred to as an “Estate” in Oz these days?
If you factor in the mega inflation by the good ol’Aussie money printing presses, the value of the place has probably gone backwards in real terms.
