I have a hard time with Bethany. On on hand, she’s clearly tough as nails and surfs pretty damn well. On the other hand, she’s got the jeebus thing, which I don’t care for, and her fame is really just related to being eaten by a shark as a kid. Ultimately, she doesn’t care what I think and she surfs Jaws, so I guess that’s it.

Folks dislike her for her religious beliefs plain and simple.
I do, kinda – it’s just so in your face. And her lack of education. But most of all, I don’t understand why Jesse James and others insist she’s a top 10 surfer in the world. She’s ok, but not even at Alana’s level. Like maybe the equivalent of Michael Dunphy on the men’s side or something.
Yeah top 10 is a stretch I’d say. I’m not sure Alana is in that conversation either due to the bench mark for women’s surfing set fairly high by carissa. I will say in the past few years women’s surfing has become more interesting due to a higher talent level. I find myself more amped to watch some of their heats than some of the men’s.
next couple of generations are going to be interesting! Have you seen Sabre Norris – 10 years old and can land air reverses no worries – also can do a mctwist on a halfpipe!
