I made a career and decent living for myself and family being original, entertaining everyday surfers and scoring waves around the world, yes while producing surf mags that were respected, and never sold out or mentioned sacred surf spots. I’d list the titles for ya but you don’t buy surf mags so you wouldn’t know.

Yes. And ads ideally flow with the editorial architechture, enhancing the readers’ experience as some of the best surf shots in mags are in ads. After working for pubs that would accept fucken Anything for the almighty ad buck, I left good jobs to launch my own titles that accepted only quality/pertinent advertising messages from “partners” interested in supporting my concepts and coming to the party legit. There’s a lot of crap ads that don’t belong in surf mags or on surf sites. It’s a shame when it comes to that.

After working 100-hour weeks for decades I hung up my publishing/hiring hat. It’s no place to get rich but I did get paid in good waves and quality friendships. The surf industry is a beautiful place to work and enjoy a zany lifestyle. Get after it!
