If Jordy really wants to do something for the environment, how about stop flying in jet planes 100 times more than the average human? Just from the Dream Tour circuit, all of these pro surfers have individual carbon footprints the size of entire towns. Not to mention their employer flies maybe 100 support people non-stop around the planet, and a full tv studio, and, for fucksake, their own jet skis that never seem to stop running.
Now add in the constant jetting off for “strike missions.”
And now add in the, what, 100 boards per annum? Year in year out these guys disposably churn through shipping containers of gnarly plastics.
And then add as sprinkles on top of that environmental disaster sundae the normal consumer habits of a wealthy first world person.
Point is, WSL professional surfers would probably be better environmental citizens if they quit competitive wave play and joined the board of Dow Chemical. The fact that any of them have anything to say to any of us about environmental protection is the height of greenwashing.
but, like.. they all get free hurley x whoever water canteens and they promote picking up 2 pieces of trash during contests.
